Just wanted to hear what people thought about this winery. I dont understand why their wines dont sell better then they do. I think they are good wines and built to last. They are right across the street from Screaming Eagle and on their Right is Dalle Valle. It just amazes me that their wines really dont move on the retail shelves. The last few years I have not been buying their releases when they 1st come out because they go for about 80 a bottle. After about six months they lower ther price. I have even gotten some bottles for 29.99. Please let me know what you people think or feel about this winery. Thanks.

I can only speak for the Cabernets, but I thought the 2001s were very tannic. No, make that fiercely tannic.

Well, maybe I'm being too hard on them - I think that the 2001 Napa bottling is pretty nice if you can find it for around $30-35. They decided to declassify a lot of the fruit from the Oakville bottling (usually a $70+ wine) for 2001 and put it into the Napa bottling.

I did enjoy the '99 Oakville bottling quite a bit when I tasted it 18 months ago. However, it was also quite... tannic (though more balanced).

I don't know what's going on with these guys either. I love the wines, but am at a loss to figure out what the strategy is. Pricing is all over the map! I paid $75/btl for the 97 & 98 Cab at the winery, and have subsequently seen it discounted severly retail. They obviously dumped there very tasty 99 Napa Chardonnay on the market extremely cheaply, I bought it for $12.99!! They seem to have lowered their prices drastically for many of the newer releases.

Anyhow, I love the wines - there just doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to their marketing Confused

I think their marketing is a HUGE problem. I dont understand their marketing plan or even if they have one. I cant see them making wine in 5 years if business continues to be the way it is. I do know though that they have a lot of money behind this business.
