StarV...welcome! Very good advice from everyone. You couldn't find a better crew to quaff some wine with than these guys.

I think I'm due to have an off-line at my house, so I'll look forward to meeting you!

Typical food pairings for our gatherings consist of fried chicken, chitlins, & BBQ, with sides of fried okra, turnip greens, pork rinds, and cornbread. Someone also usually brings a homemade sour mash. Many of the group are also accomplished banjo players and may be chided to perform, especially after drinking the moonshine. Eek

You're right. I may have given the wrong impression to our new friend what our group is really like. Actually, we sometimes will rent a nice limo to the offsite venue, and sometimes even take a sunset cruise on the intracoastal. After that, we eat, sometimes preparing the food ourselves and then we drink wine and drink some more. It's hot here, so we often end the evening by taking a dip to cool off. I think you'll really like it here.

Ditto on Wine Watch. A buddy from my sommelier class recommended that retailer for its insane collection of Bordeaux's; unfortunately, when I purchased a 2001 Haut-Bages Liberal for $26 through their online store, I got an e-mail the next day saying that they couldn't find the bottle. Roll Eyes Still, I plan on going over there (they're in Ft. Lauderdale) to see what they actually have in stock.

I've found a few bargains at the new Crown store here in Pembroke Pines. There's also a nice store/wine bar here called The Grape Merchant - the guy there (Lorin) is a sommelier and is very knowledgeable and engaging.

Welcome to S. Florida!

If you have never been to Wine Watch - allocate a lot of time and happy hunting. If you go on Saturday in the late afternoon- they usually have brown bag tastings - always an interesting time to stop by.

Various regular customers and sometimes Andy the store owner - bring bottles of wine tasted blind in brown bags and everyone tastes and tries to guess what it is - that is it - you do not need to bring anything to participate and if you just stroll in you will be offered to try wines. We do not go often - but have occasionally.
