Having a tasting this weekend of $15 (purchase price, not list) and under red wines that are still available from anywhere in the world. So far my choices of the wines I own are:

2002 Ninth Island Pinot Noir
1999 Allegrini Palazzo della Torre
1999 Allegrini La Grola
2001 d'Arenberg The Footbolt
2000 Château de Lascaux Coteaux du Languedoc
2001 Rosemount Mudgee Hill of Gold Shiraz
2001 Justin Paso Robles Syrah
2000 Chateau Malescasse (haven't tried this as I didn't think it would be ready)

Which of these would you choose or do you have something different you might recommend?

I liked the Mudgee Hill of Gold. Around here, it's running about $18 a bottle.

1999 Allegrini Palazzo della Torre

Definately an outstanding wine. My fiancee and I had this with lunch at a nice Italian restaurant in Little Italy, and it couldn't have gotten any better. Simply wonderful!!!

2000 Cappellaccio Riserva Aglianico, Castel del Monte DOC(Puglia)

What a bargain! A real racy powerhouse, full of complexity for $15. Hard to beat.

bt, the Allegrini Palazzo is a fine choice, great stuff. I might also suggest the Borsao Tres Picos, the 2002 is available for less than $10 right now.

I have been leaning towards the the Palazzo. I opened a bottle on Monday to check it out and really liked it.

Has anyone tried the 2000 Château de Lascaux Coteaux du Languedoc?

Found the Borsao for $7.99, I'll give it a try tonight.

Couple others I have paid less than $15 for but haven't tried.

2001 Capcanes Mas Donis
2000 Casa Castillo Las Gravas

Thoughts?

The recently found Raymond's 1999 "Estate" Napa cab for $12 at the Trader Joe. I find it every bit as good as the '99 reserve, at less than half the price. While not a huge cab, it's very well balanced, smooth, and right at its prime. An unbelievable value.
