YES! I got clear RAID aromas from a low-budget 2005 Bdx recently. Disgusting.

What wine was that? I'm always looking for a good pairing.

someone once told me that you cannot taste anything out of a wine after smoking pot.

That being said, Bernard Levet Cote Rotie Le Chavaroche in a typical year can smell of pot. (Not the smoke, but the herb itself.)

(FWIW: While I support the legalization and taxing of it, I don't actually smoke pot, I just happen to know what it smells like from my high school and college days.)

It's a non-issue around these areas; in fact, it's taboo to make it into an issue. And, I would say the reverse is true - it kicks your olfactory sense into overdrive, and everything is just intensified including textural perception. That's just a POI, not a recommended mandate.

Oh, and thanks for the recommendation. Can't go wrong with the Northern Rhone...

Recently, butternut squash from a Loire Chenin Blanc. I did not like it.

I'm not sure squash is weird or unusual, but I've run into most of the mentioned above (but no boogers or VDub lifters).

Railroad ties...ah yes. I smelled one and said "Transformer Oil" (for those who are electrical engineers from the last century, that's pretty descriptive). Later I heard someone mention creosote. Yeah, that's probably the same component and so are the railroad ties...
