I just picked up a bottle at Costco for $23 and tried it last night. WOW! Big, jammy, viscous, elegant, and a looonnnnggg finish. I don't know if anyone has rated it, but I'll give it a 93! Anyone else try it?
What's more fun- the pursuit or the consumption? |

I haven't tried this yet but I have tried a bottle of their non-reserve 2001 Syrah and found it quite nice. WS rated the regular bottling an 85 but I thought it was a little better than that. I will have to try the reserve as the Costco near me has just received it and I would like to try it and compare it to the regular Syrah. How were the tannins on the reserve and do you think it has a long life ahead of it?

I'm not surprised - everything they make is of good quality, even their lower end Cabs, merlots and Blends.

it's all good -
I've had this since 98 - which I popped the last one just recently and it was still very good. The 99 was outstanding as was the 2000. These are all very fruit forward but elegent wines with a lot in the middle. The 98 I just had was actually turning away from the young syrupy side to something browner and more leathery - it had lost a little complexity on my palate, though. So, I would say go for the 99-00 now and enjoy or hold those 01's! |
