You and I may be the only people who bought the 2004 Solaia at the LCBO. I tasted it at the winery last fall and thought it was the best Solaia I have ever drunk. (But the bad news is that I was told the 2006 vintage is shaping up to be even better.)

And surprisingly for a change, the LCBO price is lower than in Italy. Big Grin The best price I could find in the local wine shops was 129 Euros, which is approx $178 even after the VAT refund at today's exchange rate.

I dunno, it seems like the '04 Solaia sold pretty quickly upon release. To be quite truthful with you, I've never had a Solaia before and I didn't immediately purchase them when they were first released, but there were two languishing behind glass doors at the Beaches LCBO so I finally broke down and grabbed two Smile

I had heard from several of the Vintages consultants that the Solaia wasn't selling well in their stores. Perhaps the people in my area are hoarding their cash in expectations of winning the Clos des Papes and Deus ex Machina lotteries. (A positive outlook, soon to be dashed in reality)

Mav, I tried the 2005 Pegau in St Louis when I visited my brother. It was tasting nice on release but we wont really know for another 12 years how it will pan out. The guy who imports it for the wine merchants in St Louis said the 2007 in the barrel now will be the best so far this decade. I got the 2006 Pegau on pre arrival from premier cru for $69 so I bought a couple. Parker gave the 06 91-93 pts from barrel samples which the the varietals havn't been blended into a cuvee yet. I'm gonna wait for the 07 and see what Tanzer says about it.

I tried it in Vegas as well and it was quite impressive. I was suprised how approachable it was as it wasn't in the decanter that long.

It makes it very hard to resist drinking the rest of my stash. Thankfully, I have a source that I can buy some from if need be.

Glad to hear that 2006 and 2007 are going to be good years. Now, if only the price would stop going up, I would be very happy.

Now....where's that Screwpull?

I just got my club shipment from Mount Eden. In it was 2006 Chardonnay Saratoga Cuvee and the 2005 Pinot Noir Saratoga Cuvee. Low alcohol on the Pinot at an even 13.0% and the Chard is pretty nice as well at 13.9%.
