The average bottle count got me thinking. What is the average age of the bottles I have. Mine is 8.1

I didn’t look at CT, but I have to be in the 1-5. More than half my cellar is 2005 Bord and Rhone. I’ll be a good offline contributor in 15 years

Just got started on this sickness, most are babies.
I am heavy on purpose with Oregon Pinot Noir's, thinking of holding no more than 3-5 years for most of them, maybe a few exceptions. Might as well drink local. |

Had to go over my inventory to figure this out. Turns out to be 6.5 per bottle.

I'm running a nursery in my cellar. Things should start getting interesting after 2010. "It's easy to grin, when your ship comes in, and you've got the stockmarket beat, but the man worth-while, is the man who can smile, when his shorts are too tight in the seat." -Judge Smails |

2000.5 currently. Major sales of Bdx in the last year have increased the average vintage substantially.
Moo I'm a dairy heir. Think about how stupid the average person is. Then realize that half the people are stupider than THAT. By definition 50% of the population is below the median intelligence level and all it takes to get elected is 50% + 1 vote. |

Average age of 10.8 for me. Mostly thanks to the collection of older vintage ports in the cellar.

So do the 2005 Bordeaux and CdP's that I'm just now picking up count as 3 years, or 0?
Guessing 3 years, but they're really brand new to me! |

6 years for me. The numbers get skewed slightly by weak vintages (i.e. 2002).

Only 2003 for Bordeaux, but probably younger for wines from elsewhere. Like gigabit, it will be interesting in a few years when more reached maturity.

According to CT, 2000.0 for me. Makes sense since I no longer buy new vintages. The '01 German Rieslings are what raised the average vintage. Couldn't pass up that year in the Mosel.

I haven't figured it out, but my red Bordeaux, all from great vintages, average well over 20 years. Red Burgundy about 20 years. Red Rhone, 15 years. USA reds about 8-10 years. Other reds probably 5 years. White Bordeaux, all sweet, close to 30 years. White Burgundy 5 years. USA whites 3 years. Port over 20 years.
Just one more sip. |
