I'm surprised that I'm down to 213 bottles.

Of that, only 8 bottles are Rieslaner (the Darting 2001 Auslese). There are 43 bottles of Donnhoff 2002 Spatlesen, the remaining 161 bottles are MSR (mostly JJPrum) 2001-03.

I did open a 1975 Prum spatlese last weekend that reminded me why I bought, and continue to hold, these ephemeral wines.

cheers, y'all!

First time this thread came around I only had a dozen or so bottles, now it is 101 (19,5% of the cellar). By far the most is MSR: 89 bottles, Nahe 8, Pfalz 3, Mittelrhein 1.

Looks like Ronnie and Grossie have seen the largest increases in German wine in their cellars over the last 3 years.

Actually, at the end of 2005, I had 6 bottles of Riesling. Since 2006 I've purchased 260 bottles of Riesling, nearly all of it German. So I'd have to say I've had a pretty significant increase during the time period covered by your post. Smile

I started buying seriously after the '05 vintage. Most of what I bought before has already been drunk. The advantage ( Roll Eyes) now is that I don't have access to my cellar, so all I buy stays there.

I too stocked up on some 2005's after our track through the Mosel Region with you and Lady Roots.
We did experience some incredible tastings there, didn't we? Cool
Patti and I still talk about the tastings with SA Prum (himself) and Willy Schafer's son (in their family dining room)...sampling they're entire 2005 vintage offerings.

That was a great trip indeed. Smile
Both Prüm and Schaefer were incredibly friendly and took a lot of time for us. Last month I revisited Schaefer, and this time both father and son were present. I bought some of their wonderful 2008's. I am especially happy with the magnum of 2008 Graacher Domprobst Spätlese, of which very few were bottled. A very good trophy from our wedding year.

LadyR and I have been talking a lot about how we have to find a way to meet you and Patti again sometime soon. We'd love to visit Canada again, but I'm not sure if we can make it soon...
