Tangle,

How did the Neal do for you last night?

Here's my note:

"Opened and decanted initially 1/2 hour. Finished the bottle over 3 hours. Strong blueberries on the nose. At the 1 hour mark, some mustiness. On the palate: black cherry notes with a dry citrus finish. Good. Seemed somewhat reticent even after decanting."

Thx. I'm starting to wonder if this one is starting to go through a weird phase. The last one I had (recently) was not as good as the previous two I'd tasted (last year).

That was my last one. Post a note when you pop one. I'd be interested to see how it evolves.

Beginning the latter part of my 1.5 week long business trip. Recently arrived at the beautiful Zermatt Resort & Spa in Midway, Utah and, since I don't have to be anywhere until Noon tomorrow, I felt it was a good evening to open up a couple wines.

Will start with part of a 2004 Kilkanoon Parable Shiraz and have a 2001 Greenock Creek Apricot Block Shiraz (decanting now) with the steak I ordered.

I just had to have a small glass of the '01 Apricot from the get go, and if it's any indication of what's in store for later, this one's going to (once again) be a special drop.

2005 Beringer Private Reserve Chard - One of the best whites (including Riesling and Sauternes) I have ever tasted.

Very special wine IMO. Huge body, good oak but so well balanced.

RP gave this 93 and I would say 95+ is more accurate. I have no idea how this will age (likely nicely for 5 years) but it is amazing.

Why are you drinking that swill? Razz Big Grin

Those wines are almost 50 years old... they must have gone bad by now. Wink

Very nice. Those 4 producers are definately all in my top 10. Must have been quite the tasting.

Reminds me of a line from Steve Martin's 'The Jerk'.......

Waiter: Would monsieur care for another bottle of the Chateau Latour?

Steve: Ah yes - but no more 1966. Let's splurge! Bring us some fresh wine! The freshest you've got - this year! No more of this old stuff.

Waiter: Oui monsieur.

Steve: He doesn't realise he's dealing with sophisticated people here
