I see that you're slumming it again. Damn, I wish I didn't have that meeting tonight! Have fun and please post your tasting notes. Sometimes I just have to savour these things vicariously.

OTW,
How was the 2004 Solaia? I'm reluctant to pull the trigger. Is it worth the coin in your opinion?

No question it's the best Solaia I have had. It's a lot of money but I suppose it's not out of line with some other highly rated wines. I have several older vintages of Solaia in the cellar, and I couldn't let the best one escape me. I bought one on release in Italy, and then another 3 at Vintages when I realised it was cheaper than I had paid for the first one.

The price at the LCBO is actually cheaper than you can get anywhere I've been in Tuscany. Fortunately, I didn't have to pay for the bottle I drank last week, but the price on the restaurant menu at Fonte de Medici was 189 Euros (~130+ Euros at local wine shops).

OTW, there are several others in your list I wouldn't mind hearing a little about. Galatrona, Ornellaia, Pacenti.

Tonight we had 2001 Produttori del Barbaresco (normale)

Here's my note:

"Opened and decanted initially 1/2 hour. Finished the bottle over 3 hours. Strong blueberries on the nose. At the 1 hour mark, some mustiness. On the palate: black cherry notes with a dry citrus finish. Good. Seemed somewhat reticent even after decanting."

Thx. I'm starting to wonder if this one is starting to go through a weird phase. The last one I had (recently) was not as good as the previous two I'd tasted (last year).

Blasted Church Hatfield's Fuse from a local winery, further evidence that BC's white are a great QPR, unlike the vast majority of our reds.
