FWIW, I have had every vintage back to 1995. My feeling is that 1998 is the worst, followed by the 2000. I have had the 2003 many times over the last year. It is a very good wine, and if I were to give points, I might go as high as 89-90. The 2004 is an excellent bottle, one that will be outstanding in a few years.

Not to stir things up, but while the price for Cinq has gone up, the scores have gone down. I know, I know, tasted blind....whatever.... Roll Eyes

But the 2002 got 84 points, and the 2004 only 87? Sorry, but no friggin' way.... Confused

Did you like the Chante Alouette? I thought it was absolutely fantastic when I tried it in November. It was at a tasting, however, so I really didn't get to analyze it too much. Look forward to drinking my bottles.

Going to open a 94 Spottswoode Cab this weekend with the in-laws. I've stood the bottle up, though there is very little sediment. I will decant for the sediment, but, should I decant just prior to drinking or give it time? If I should let it breathe how long should I allow? I don't want to wait to long as some think it is past prime.

Wow, I'm envious.

I have had about 2 oz. of this wine, and one of the best ever. Parker did get this one right.

I hope you post a tasting note DoktaP.

Fut-the Chante Alouette was outstanding with the seafood appetizer. Definitely more food friendly.

w + a- Parker was right on with this. It blew away the '83 Margaux, and in my mind, that's a tough achievement. Stunning, and definitely better on the palate than on the nose. Slightly muted, but friggin' glorious passed the lips. I can still taste it.

Is this the Hermitage blanc? I am really intrigued. The prices seem reasonable compared to others I have seen. I may have to be on the lookout. Sounds fantastic. My wife may even support a purchase of this.

Yes, it's the Hermitage Blanc. It's excellent. A real standout wine at a tasting where I went through close to 100 wines, including Haut-Brion, Pichon-Lalande, and tons of top Italians (fundraising event with winemakers), Californians, French, and Aussie wines.

On a 12-day road/business trip so I, of course, packed a dozen wines (which ought to last perhaps a week). Without getting too much into my personal life, I have to say this "sabbatical" is a nice break for me, given the current situation at home.

Anyway, I opted to drive, not fly, on this trip so, in addition to the wines, I brought a Riedal decanter, Cabernet glass, and Shiraz glass... why not do a road trip in style eh?

Tonight, in honor of my friend KSC02, I am currently enjoying a 2003 Shafer Cabernet... not the One Point Five, but just the "regular" Cab. It's SOOOOOOO good. I give it a good 5 points higher than the 87 that Spectator gave it. Sadly, this is the last bottle I have but it's a memorable one indeed.

I also have opened a bottle of 1999 Greenock Creek Creek Block Shiraz (Parker 96) and plan on having at least some of it tonight.

An enjoyable 03? It is really good? Shocking Eek Glad to see you are enjoying some good bottles and getting some time away, even if it is work.

Yes, it really is quite good, far better than the 87 rating it received. I wish I had a couple cases of this.

Tomorrow night another '03 Cab (Ladera Howell Mountain) is on tap. I had that one on my "for sale" list but decided it was too good to pass up.

Must say that I'm surprised by the "gentleness" of the '99 GC Creek Block. Most of their wines, in my experience, have been powerhouses, but this one, while undeniably potent (if that makes sense), is quite approachable.

The nose is a unique combination of violets, dark fruit, and wet gravel (quite intoxicating), while the palate is still a bit locked down. Perhaps another day in the bottle and more air time will allow it to come into fruition.

If a business trip could be called "easy," this one definitely fits the description. Yeah, I've got work to do but it's pretty mellow, all things being equal.
