It had an amazing nose, just so lush. It was clearly drinking better than the 01 Joseph Phelps Cab which is a great wine in its own right and it put a 98 Far Niente Estate Cab to shame.

I have a couple 2000 Cinq Cepages but I doubt they will be anywhere near as good as the 03. The 03 also felt like it would improve nicely over the next 5+ years. The wine really exceeded my expectations.

It is this kind of wine that makes me wonder why the 03's get a bad rap but I don't want to get started on an 03 tirade again.

It was excellent. I was going to post a note later when I had a little more time. I may have mentioned that my wife is not into wine like me. She also thinks it is silly to spend $20 or more for a bottle. Well, she really loved it and actually wanted to know if I could get more. Ahh the irony.

How's that drinking, Steve? I received a bottle of the 2003 at the winery a couple years ago, but am still holding off as I thought it was really young when tasted during my visit.

It was very good, but a little thin on the mid-palate. Nice nose and good fruit. I would give it a 90, but not sure it will improve any.

Altesino gave you a bottle of the 03? Nice.

WE gave this wine 94 points, whereas WS only gave it 86. It would appear that WE is closer to the truth. Would you agree?

I was planning on holding mine until at least 2010.

I would say WE is closer but they have a tendency to overrate. Spectator definitely underrated this big time which makes no sense to me considering they give something like Don Melchor 96. I was so impressed with it I went and checked the ratings while I was drinking just out of curiosity and the disparity bothered me.

I think you will be very well served holding onto it at least until 2010.

Sticky2, remember the they at WS is different people, so can not compare really.

As for the '03 Cinq, I'm curious if there is bottle variation. I have had far too many bottles of this wine at corporate dinners, and never had a bottle I would rate above 87, which I have found to be the case for most of the '03 vintage.

The '02 & '04 vintage (Napa) is just so much better imo to risk a '03.

Thanks for your comments.

Opened a 2006 A-Z Oregon Pinot Noir last night, having another glass right now. Has developed and opened up in the last 24 hours, very nice $18 Oregon PN.
