Hi - re '94 Latour - do you think you just had a bad bottle? I recently picked up a magnum hoping to drink it another 10 yrs - my sons birth year wine. Maybe that's optimistic?

web,
The bottle wasn't "off" in terms of corked or madeirized. It was opened, but not decanted, 2 hours before consumption. It just could be in a dumb phase, but compared to other older Latours, it just didn't have the stuffing. The finish was long, but not your typical Pauillac
cedar/lead nose. I suspect it will be a much better wine when you're ready to open it, but it will never be the '82 or other blockbuster vintages. Just my .02.

thanks for the reply - I have Latour, Margaux and Leoville Barton as 1994 birth year wines, along with some Ports.

I'll be interested to hear about this one. Had it at Xmas and it was very good, though a little too sour on the finish. I have a case of the 05 Grand Clos coming to me shortly.

The finish is definitely a little tart on all the Clos Jordanne's I've tried so far, but not to the point that its a turnoff. I have a few 2005's too, was thinking of doing a vertical tasting of both 2004 and 2005

I tasted the 2005 on US Thanksgiving and it needed a LOT more time. Was tannic and sour, but there was a very good wine lurking there. Might be interesting to see how it's drinking now though.

2002 Silkwood QueSirahSyrah, a 50% PetiteSirah and 50% Syrah blend from the Sierra Foothills. After several hours of decanting, very yummy. Nice acidity and tannin and potential for more improvement with time in the cellar! An excellent deal at $21.99 a bottle.

I just came home to a half drank bottle of 06 Roar Garys'. Very tasty...but oh so young. The wife's comment was, well you only mentioned it once, that's because we had drank 1 of 2 bottles allocated. : (

1999 Chateau Souverain Cab Alexander Valley. Not bad. This wine always seems to be a pleasant surprise and ages quite well.
