Empson portfolio Brunello tasting?

What were your thoughts on the wines, JC? I tasted the Fuligni and two Poggio Antico Brunellos in November, and thought the Fuligni was the best of the three, but I wasn't overly impressed with any of them. Then again, they were just recently shipped from Italy, so that may have had something to do with it.

The importer/distributor was pouring - I did not ask the company though - nice guy in any event knew all the producers etc.

The Lisini was by far the worst of the lot - I thought the wines were showing pretty well - to me the Costanti was the best - If I were ranking I would say Costanti, Fuligni, Pog. Ant. Altero, Pog. Antico normale and then the Lisini.

The Altero and Fuligni were a little too oak driven for my personal preference in a brunello but in terms of showing on Saturday that would be the order - The PA normale may just need time - Wi

Complex floral aroma; lots of red fruit and spices - tannin is completely resolved. Ready to drink now.

That would be great, as others you know are also holding a few. Wink

2005 Truro Vineyards Cabernet Franc

Just opening it now and gonna give it a little air for a while. The sample I tried at the winery in Cape Cod was surprisingly good, but then again, there was only about four inches of wine left in the bottle when I showed up. It was very approachable and smooth considering its a 3 year old Cab Franc. Excited for this one...

How are they? Still tannic?

Nope. Was surprisingly well-rounded. Not overly tannic, hot, or anything...negative. Probably the best shiraz I've ever had thus far.

Go with the 750mL, PH. I know you've got some of those around too! I'm going to try one of mine soon too. I tried it last 3 years ago, so that's why I was asking for a data point - especially considering Winetex's uninteresting TN on CellarTracker.

What did you think? I've had the 06 Russian River Chardonnay and thought it was really good, but figured I'd hold on to the pinots for another year or so.

2007 Paumanok Sauvignon Blanc

yes, it's true i am the paumanok cheerleader lately, but i believe in the whites i have tasted. this one is no exception. good juice. but here's my complaint. it's $28. i can throw a dart at the sauv blanc section of any wine shop and hit decent drinking sb's at 1/2 the cost. why why why is the pricing as it is(it goes for 100% of my experiences with ny wines)? i would try and support these more if only someone would come to their sences. rant over.
