I am working with a resort owner here in so cal who has put together an Epicurean weekend with a highly acclaimed chef who will construct his menu around the wine selections. This will be for 7 couples, of which; some are fairly well versed in wine, a pleasant surprise and also raises the bar just a bit.
The owner, who does know his wine stuff wants to do an old world vs new world per varietal theme, same vintage. Here is what I have come up with---italics indicates his selections from which I cannot deviate:

Champagne only one----NV Krug

2003 Peter Michael, Apres Midi --2003 Dagueneau, Pur Sang

2002 Littorai Hirsch Vineyard vs 2002 V. Girardin Chambertin Clos de Beze

2002 Insignia vs ??????

Give me some ideas, yes! A 2002 BDX to go up against the 2002 Insignia of similar profile/cuvee.
Needs to be in the same price range within $50 and he is really stuck on doing this with the 2005 WOTY.

I am going to cross pollenate so you will see this at WD, so no need to reply twice, I'll check both!
Thank You/ Merci

Great idea, but tough to develop. You already know how difficult it will be to find an appropriate European selection from 2002 that will drink well today. Why not use a CA Cab from '97 or '99 vs. a Cab-based SuperTuscan from the same vintage, and then serve the Insignia on its own as a special Wine-of-the-Year treat? Just a thought.

Sounds like your new career is fun and interesting!

Why blow such a young Insignia? Seems a little early to me.

Must agree with melman here. Rothko brought a bottle to last week's Florida offline and it's years away from ready. Same with the Chambertin. If you must drab these wines, I hope you'll splash decant them far in advance.

Just one more sip.
