Do we have enough forumites of interest to run a fantasy baseball league for 2004?

Format: NL only, AL only, or Major League Universe

League Size: 8, 10, 12 or more...

Draft format: snake, or auction

Draft Location: on-line, Las Vegas, Chicago, or Napa...

Prize: bragging rights, $$, or wine of course...

After finishing a remarkably mediocre sixth in the Spectator / Cigar league in 2003, I am raring for this year. Keep me posted, please.

(I also know, this year, not to trade with Roger Riddell.)

I'd definitely be interested! I prefer the 5x5 roto league with both AL/NL players. I played a league in yahoo.com last year and enjoyed the format.

I'm interested. Never tried it before but I'm a quick learner.

Hello Keith. Must I even ask about the status.

In the spirit of Pete Rose, I'm in! I should divulge that I do consulting work for MLB (watch any FOX or ESPN game) and I have been playing a hardcore keeper NL League since the dawn of Roto (ok, the mid-90's). So, let me lay down the gauntlet ...

I'd be willing to throw down a $50 (or so) bottle of wine toward the pot. If we get 12 (not difficult) and everyone throws in a bottle, we are talking one nice case to the winner. Or winner gets 1st dibs on 9, runner up gets 3.

An offline draft would be a lot of fun!

90% of my summer is spent watching baseball... the other half is spent drinking wine and playing poker.

Yes, that was an attempted paraphrase of Yogi Berra.

Stood up and tried to focus
I hoped I wouldn't have to look far
I knew I could use a bloody mary
so I stumbled next door to the bar

I haven't been in a Fantasy Ball league for years. If you need a live one, count me in!

Well since I'm <ahem> sporting a Super Bowl ring from my yahoo fantasy football league this year, I'd say Hell Yeah! Big Grin

I usually prefer a live on-line draft in a fantasy points based scoring system but I'm guessing we have a while to get the particulars worked out.

But count me in!

The list is getting long. I play, watch, coach and love baseball. That means I will totally over-manage and stink up the joint. But....

Me too.

I like R2-D2's idea, I am game for throwing in a bottle of wine, perhaps award to top 3 if we get 12+ forumites in this thing.

An Off-Line draft would be great, but should also figure out a way to include those that can't make the trip so they can have the option of live drafting with us in cyberspace.

For on-line live draft, I think the best site for that is the ESPN.com service, which I've done since '94, less that season when wine drinking got in the way. Wink
Anyone tried different live draft hosting?

ESPN is good but I like Yahoo's JAVA interface just as much as ESPN's (plus it's free). If you want live scoring Yahoo charges you $7-10 or something like that. Otherwise, you need to wait for the next day to see your team's HUGE stats. Yahoo is a little more flexible in your league setup as well.

I like the idea of everyone putting up a bottle of wine and the top 3 taking home a prize. The only issue is shipping. Confused

I think I've convinced Mrs. Wino to let me do one FLB draft in Vegas. If I can time this one right, and kill two birds with one stone, that would be great. I've already admitted to my poker addiction, right???

We also had very good luck with Yahoo.

We did an on-line quick live draft. Those that could got together at a home where there was ample high-speed access.

Much beer was consumed. Razz

I kind of like the idea of a case split 6/4/2 for the gold, silver, and bronze positions. Easier shipping and greater distribution of the wealth.

Just a thought.

That way I can at least double my stake. Cool

I like wino4ever's idea of a 6/4/2 split for the top 3. Since we'll probably have 12 very different wines maybe the winner would get to pick the first 6, second place the next 4 and third place would get the remaining 2.

I'd go for Vegas idea anyday... Big Grin

Since we will be using the ML universe, there is probably no need to limit the league size to 12 teams, 18 wouldn't be out of the question.

If yahoo can handle the size of our league, that sounds good.

Yahoo can do whatever size you like. I've lost 14, 16 and 20 team leagues.

The more the merrier. Should give me quite the selection to choose from.

The only week I could possible make a trip to Vegas or Cali is the first week in March. That's one month before Opening Day and two months from now, but that might work.

I am interested. I've been doing fantasy baseball and football since "89". I've been in the same bball league with the same guys since "91". I would prefer a head to head, but I'll do a roto too. As far as drafting, I'm not too sure how I can swing a travel draft. But I should be able to do an on line draft.

My email: RichandLinda@wowway.com

List of accomplishments this year:
1st in confidence pool
1st in fantasy football (superbowl winner)
2nd in roto baseball
2st in head to head baseball and world series winner
1st in suicide pool
Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin
Not too good im my NASCAR pool Cool Eek Confused

Cheers to GrapeFriends!

Not to start an endless debate, but the only form of fantasy baseball is combined season Roto.

As much fun as it could be, would probably be very difficult to arrange an Off-Line draft where everyone can be present.

However, would like to know how many people can travel, and the location you would prefer. Probably not worth the planning logistics unless half of us can do this.

Which ever way we go with the draft, will make sure everyone can participate.

I go for Vegas, Chicago, or Phoenix for Spring Training.
