The store closest to me has always either refused to put out any high-demand bottles prior to release date or will limit customers to 1 or maybe 2 bottles (depending on how many they received) on Friday night. They had 12 Vieux Donjon listed, and since I have been rebuffed by them so many times I did not even bother calling, but just showed up when they opened this morning. They told me they sold the entire case to someone who came in yesterday.

"No stores West of GTA got any"

Not true...I just picked up 2 bottles in London.

There were about 6-10 left on the shelf.

Also, got a mini Castelgiocondo and the 2006 Serre Nuove.

The store on Dupont St (east of Spadina) has a bunch on their shelves as of a couple of minutes ago.

I bought 6 for a friend this morning and she has decided to pass so they're available if anyone wants them.

I got a bunch of stuff too. Surprised that there's been little said here about the Coudoulet de Beaucastel and Bella's, both of which are supposed to be as good if not better than they've ever been.

I was surprised to see no body at 9:30 go for Donjon, Castelgiocondo, or Bella's in Nepean. Seemed like the stuff under $25 was going fast.

Alas, it is the economy.

Can't say how busy it was on the east side, as my wife made the trip today. There were certainly lots of interesting bottles at all price points to be had.

M - what this "alas" stuff??!! Fewer buyers means more and cheaper wine for people like you and me who will always be in business, thanks to our steady stream of clients! Big Grin

All of the heavy hitters were still around at 6:00 p.m. in Etobicoke.

The economy has a lot to do with it, but I also think the hobby is not as popular as it once was in the GTA (just like golf, cigars, etc.).

Hmmm...as I recall you live quite close to that store I am talking about!!! I did get 2 somewhere else, wouldn't mind ending up with 5 or 6, but I also want to sacrifice one now. If I have no luck on sunday I will be happy to take some off your hands, or someone elses (thanks).

Has anyone else tasted this, any thoughts on how it compares to the 2005 version, or other 2007's?

Big Grin I suppose the idea of the 375's being different is possible, but I'm not putting $50 down to find out. There is plenty of other stuff to spend my money on.

I'm with you there.

You bought the Castelgiocondo??? Point whore. Ignores me and Fut, and you've even said that JS overrates Italian wines.

Ok First of all, you know that as the mtl italophile, I love the 1999 Castelgioncondo and there was no way I was going to miss out on the 2004. It has still not been released in Qc and it is about 2$ cheaper in Ontario.

Finally, since when are you and futronic references on Italian wine? You guys like Barbara d'alba, for C`s sake.

Popcorn

I think the LCBO's shipment was packed in a container of natural fertilizer. If you pop one please post some notes (same for those QPR's please...I am trying a Ringbolt now after being quite disappointed by other vintages that I have tried...not so bad in the first hour or so, though I am getting a fair bit of green pepper on the nose right now).

Eek Oops. Reminds me of the time that I misspelled Tuscany.

Machine,

The Papa Luna is actually pretty good. Solid 87 or 88. I also bought the 7 zins but futronic trashed it on cellar tracker. I got some 2007 montes alpha syrah, the Luigi Bosca Cabernet, the Papaioannou Single estate, and some other oddities and of course the castelgiocondo. The vieux donjon was already purchased for me by friends in TO.

I did pick up a bottle of papa luna and montes alpha, but put them down pending further review. I don't think I have any everyday drinkers left, really need to replenish (can never seem to talk myself into opening something more expensive than my everyday drinker range unless I take the time to make a nice gourmet meal to go with it, which is tough during the week). Will try to check these out.

I spent the weekend fishing and was unable to get to any LCBO. Anyone have any Vieux Donjon to share?

Noticed Le Vieux Donjon today in Costco ( Carlsbad - N. San Diego and has THREE wines aisles!!) was $51.99 - so the LCBO price wasn't too bad at all at $60 - left a list with my fav. vintages guy to put some away. Will keep me in suspense since I am west of Toronto.

Greg
p s- hope some posts the Nov 21 list on it's own thread soon -

I went to the " one " you mentioned knowing they " supposed " to have 12. Walked in there at 10am and was told " somebody " sold them all the night before. Think I saw you walking in when I was pulling away. Went straight down to Woodbine & 7 and got some.
