and includes the Nicolas and the Adrianna (and a couple others) with good prices. These would've been lottery wines had they gone through the Classics catalogue. If you're interested, better call ASAP because I think they'll disappear fast.
Anyone interested in the Catena line might like to know that 49 cases of 6 btls/cs will appear in the November 21, 2009 Vintages Release as an In-Store Discovery item. The vintage was not defined but the product is the Catena Alta Cabernet Sauvignon and the price is $49.95.
Plus the 2006 Catena Alta Malbec will share the spotlight in thesame release at $55.95/btl - the supply is 202 cases of 6btl/cs.
Thanks to all for their kind words.

John Szabo has written some positive things about two of the unheralded French wines in the October 24 release. Both are from very good vintages, and are at price levels that make them potentially good QPRs:
2000 Château Tour Saint-André (Lalande De Pomerol) @$30 2005 Château Bégadanet (Medoc) @$20
FYI, for those looking to buy the 2004 Castelgiocondo, I called the Vintages Customer Service line as the price published in the magazine and online was lower ($49.95) than the price in the Vintages search engine and on the tags in the store ($54.95). When speaking with the CSR she said in her systems the higher price looked right but that they'd investigate.
Well ... I just searched now and the new price in the search engine is $49.95. So to those buying the wine, you're welcome! Make sure the checkout price is correct.
I'm still unsure about a purchase for myself but picked up a half that I will be following through the evening to see if my thoughts are similar to steve and otw's. I'll report back.

I'd love to hear how this goes. I had a bad experience with the 01's I purchased.. but love the 375 option with this 04 BdM.
Not overly impressed with it last night. I followed a glass over six hours. Initially the nose was better than the palate, which was disjointed showing pretty much only acid and peach. After a few hours the nose started to be more barnyardy.
I left half the half bottle for tonight so I'll check in again. A significant improvement will be required for me to considering buying fulls. I think this would be a little shy of Galloni's rating and definitely nowhere near Suckling's rating at this point in time.
Now I'm just waiting for Steve to chime in with an "I told you so."
I actually prefered the 95 and 97 vintages of this wine in its youth. I had the 95 at age 10 and age 12 and didn't care for it. I returned 4 of the 99 based on Futronic's advice and have yet to try it holding 2. And I have one more of the 97 which I might try to hold to 2011.
If there are any GV fans here he did a recent 2004 Brunello tasting which included this at www.winelibrarytv.com.

I'll be interested in where this wine goes on night 2.
Night 1 from 1/2 bottle. Excess acid went away pretty quick. Starts out ok, but nothing to write home about. Weird yellowish/pink fruit on the nose and palate. Now 2 hours in the glass, still the weird fruits but also some distinct violets on the nose. Getting the sense that I just walked by a freshly-used port-o-let (#1 plus #2 plus a dash of urinal puck). Some caramelized fruit. Tastes like some rotting fruit made it in to the mix. However, its not without its charm.

I was discussing this wine with a product consultant yesterday and he found the wine "nice" but not much more than that. We also discussed the possibility that the 375mLs were bottled from a different lot at a different time from 750mLs and how that could account for some differences (i.e. - he didn't get the barnyard notes), but regardless this wine just isn't doing it for me and I'll pass this weekend.

Super quite for a great release !!! I heard a small rumor that my local LCBO manager was considering limiting one per person.. I know they already do it at many of the larger stores... What a dreadful thought.
I doubt this will happen. There was a case of them sitting on the shelf at a store near my work all week. I guess the heavy-hitting CdPs from the Classics are overshadowing this one.
There was lots of the vieux donjon on the shelves at queens quay. Even met a pretty little consultant there as I was shopping. Might have to invite her to the monthly cellar tasting for Fut to meet.
Picked up the castelgiocondo to keep the vertical (and wife) happy. Will keep the reciept on hand just in case.

I remember a similar chatter about limiting quantites per customer when the LE VIEUX DONJON CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE 2005 was released. Back then the 2005 ranked near the top of the TOP 100 Wines. Expecting the restriction I walked into one of the local LCBO late Sunday and was told if I didn't take what I really wanted the the product consultant was going to get hassled everyday by Toronto LCBOs asking for this wine to be transeferred to their location. Not only was I surprised to be get any 2005 Le VIEUX DONJON on a Sunday but I ended up getting the last 11 bottles in stock.
Just grabbed 6 bottles of the Donjon from the Bayview store. They said they only got 2 cases in , and it was all gone by the time I left at 10am. Looked like they had a good amount of the Castelgiocondo for anyone who wants that.

Was really pissed when I went to my favourite Waterloo store and found out that 'my order' of Donjon was absolutely no hope..It appears no stores west of the GTA received any!!
The good news, was that the store in Milton had 20 bottles last night, and I had them put 2 aside - When I went this morning, got my 2 but the gal said their phone was ringing off the hook and the rest was spoken for...Least I can keep my vertical going now!!
On another note, picked up a few bottles of the Callabriga as well last night, not much of that around my area as well..

That you can count on.
I suppose the idea of the 375's being different is possible, but I'm not putting $50 down to find out. There is plenty of other stuff to spend my money on.
