I was there 8 years ago when we adopted our daughter. I had read up a little in an Oz Clarke book and discovered that Romania is a major wine producer. I did not get to try much wine, but I do remember fondly eating at Bistro Anthenu (don't know the correct spelling), near the Athenaeum and drinking the house red with great basic Romanian food. Music students would come in and play violin for the patrons.

I also bought a terrible bottle of Romanian pinot noir from a grocery store. But hey--it might have been the equivalent of Franzia or Gallo box wine of Romania. Wink

I've only tried a couple differant bottles of Romanian wine and unfortunately I had the same experience as Mr. Cabernet (tried one pinot and 1 cab. sauv.). Please educate and lean towards something more drinkable, always like to experience new wine.

The QPR of Romanian wine is incredible.

A local shop has various bottles of international grape varieties, like Cabernet-Sauvignon and Merlot. I find those are drinkable but not especially interesting.
The local grapes are far more interesting, my favourite being Feteasca Neagra, eg: Feteasca Neagra Special Reserve Prahova Valley, from the Dealul Mare Region.
I also enjoyed a very affordable dessert wine (Muscat Ottonel ?), dont remember the producer.

Slainte Mhath!

I have not seen any wine from Romania here except for a wine called Pinot Evil which was a real cheap pinot noir.

Hello,
Let's start with a short presentation .From the begaining i apologiase for my english if i don't right well but the english is not my native langhuge. So i'm sory for this.I am 32 years old and i was born in Romania.I start to work and learn about wines 6 years ago when i start to whork like Wine Steward for 5*cruises line company in USA.I do this job for 3 yers after i have an oportunity to thake a private busines managment program for 18 mounth in 5* hotel in USA.The place where i whas for this period is in Virginia a hotel what belongs to Orient Expres Company. The hotel is Keswick Hall of Monticcello in Keswick. In the same time during my program i do the wine tasting for Keswick Vineyards beetwen 2005 end of 2006.In that time Vineyards don't have a tasting room so they do the tasting in the bar at Keswick Hall.So my basic knowlege start hith american wines and wines from major producers countrys.I spend almost 2 years in USA time where every day i whas tasting and drinking a lots off wines but most off them from USA(California,Oregon,Virginia,Whashington, etc)My favorite wine is Cabernet Sauvignon from California.GREAT,GREAT WINES,Now back to my country i try to do somthing in wine busines.I whant share from my experience here to bring back the wines from Romania where they whas 20-30 years ago.Yeas we are a bigest producers wines in Europe but after revolution in 1989 the things in this busines turn in bad whay until 2000-2001.only now we start again slowly hat is fair to make a goog wines. Is thru we have history in Europe whit our wines from the 60',70',and 80' realy great wines. The 2007 is one of our best production and some wines confirm this with gold medals in international competition.Check this vineyards:CRAMELE RECAS. COTNARI. MURFATLAR.Is a lot of whork to do and i hoope everhiting is going wheel.I star here to help produceres and i make for them marketing into the events. Also one mounth ago i open my fist wine store hat i call it Wine Specialist(is my baby). So just very short somthing about my and Romanian wines and if you whant to now somthing(enything)about Romania i am here.My personal i what to growing my busines until there in futere i can bring some great wines from USA in Romania(they are not so many)and also to make a travel agencey to bring peopel from all around the world (in special from USA)to visit Romanian Vineyard and also Romanian History. You have what to see i swear.
All the best from Daniel

Daniel, thanks for posting. I've seen the evolution of Hungarian wines over the past 10 - 15 years and it has been stupendous. I'm sure that Romania can and will see improvements that are equally amazing. Don't worry about your English - it's clear enough. Just continue to post about your progress. Best of luck!

Thank you for the information. Our daughter just turned 10 and she is doing very well--she drives us nuts, but that's the way it is.

It is apparent that if we were going to Bucherest for wine drinking we'd be better off now, but we, at least at the time, put parenthood above wine drinking. Not anymore! Wink

Daniel, please keep on posting on Romanian wines, I'm very interested as I was born and lived a good chunck of my life there.

Last time I visited Bucharest was Summer of 2003 and I cut short my vacation from a month to 1 week due to the heatwave.

Multe halbe de bere si foarte putin vin!!!

Hi

Looking for something similar but its got to be a decent wine, not something where you can get any old wine and stick a label on.

Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

Regards

Mark
