In the past, you were supposed to submit payment via credit card with your order (unless you were submitting by e-mail). That meant that they could just call you and leave a message. Sometimes they didn't even call. This time they are collecting payment information when they call you. That means they actually have to speak to you, which should really slow things down. And if they can't reach you, then what????? It might mean more orders falling through, which will be a second chance for someone.
I was speaking with someone who works at the order desk and she told me they actually got some randomising software to select the lucky winners. So for the first time, it isn't going to be '10000 order pick-up' off the stairs. And given that new technology never works smoothly the first time, who knows how things will actually work out.

New LCBO technology never works smoothly.
Maybe they will only call people who actually got an allocation of something, if so maybe it won't take so long...for me to wait for the call that will never happen.

The last time I was this nervous about receiving a call there was a pregnancy test involved. I never want the things I own to end up owning me (but you have to love the juice, and there's nothing you can do).

Since they have left the phone lines open for business the last several catalogues, I usually call the next Thursday or Friday and they tell me what I don't get. Send in more orders with the new system of 'contact before processing'. My wife didn't have to sign the order form or even see it for that matter, this might be a benefit for we who need the juice.
It is my understanding that randomization will not be by order; it will be by wine. So for those that put in orders for the 2 (or 3) CDP's etc., it will no longer be an all-or-nothing scenario.

This is very good news... It's about time.
I agree, I certainly prefer it that way...IF it is in fact true.

Boy, you guys are really into this... what effort! Calling LCBO to inquire when they'll start calling... that's dedication! This is why I think the e-mail or web channels of distributing limited stock wine is more "fair" because both methods better rewards effort. The Classics Catalogue method, on the other hand, is all about luck regardless of any effort or dedication and hence more "unfair."
In any case, good luck to y'all... or should I say, good luck after I get my allocations first?

I kinda expected those scores... so they didn't catch my attention. It's Parker's comment about the Deux ex Machina that got me... 2 out of the 3 bottles he has tried represented the best red wine he's ever tasted? (With the other being merely perfect).
I have to believe this is an exaggeration (duh!), but still striking words.
Got everything (incl. Masseto, Grange, Italians, Spanish, Burgs, etc...) EXCEPT 0/3, 0/3, 0/3 for the '07 CdPs. So basically everything I wanted except CdP - surprise, surprise... They said they would be ordering more from the producer, though. BS, I say.

Thank you kindly, KSC02 - of course, it's all in the luck of the draw but I know this is one of those situations where I prefer not to see how the sausage is made, so to speak...
Now, who doesn't want any of their '07 CdPs please let me know and I will graciously take them off your hands... .
Edit: And, I know I got hosed in a most unceremonious fashion, but I picked up some of the older wines on the release - 1987 Rioja, 1985 Burg, 1978 Barolo - just to have something that's in its drinking window. I'd like to see some more library / back-dated releases.

Don't give up hope yet. I just got off the phone and was told they were still allocating the Clos des Papes! Of course I was shut out of the Clos Saint Jean's....every year I order every year I get shut out...gotta love the LCBO. Also shut out of the Aalto PS and the Cobos U Nico. Got everything else I ordered. First time in over 10 years I didn't order an Australian wine even though there were many temptations.

Seems hard to imagine getting shut out of the Masseto at that price point (what recession?)! But if I do get shut out, I don't know whether to get upset or to say thank you.
