My fiancee and I are going to Serafina tonight to "celebrate" our last night together as a non-married couple. She's headed out of town to the wedding site early and it's the last time we'll have dinner, just the two of us, until after we're married. Soooo...I'd like to drink a showy, good bottle and would appreciate your thoughts on what I should take from the following list:

1998 Quilceda Creek Cab
1999 Quilceda Creek Cab
1995 Dalla Valle Napa Cab
1997 Phelps Insignia
1997 Pahlmeyer Proprietary Red
1999 Etude Cab
1999 Pride Cab
1999 Araujo Eisele Cab

All thoughts are appreciated. I'm personally leaning toward the '95 Dalla Valle for no particular reason. Thanks all! Cool

Cheers!

is her wine appreciation as good as yours?
If the answer is YES-
impress her by letting HER chose the wine
If the answer is NO - STILL let her chose...women like the apearance that they are in control MORE than ANY wine you can impress them with
Smile

I have tasted all the wines on your list, except the '99 QC and Araujo. They are all very nice; however, 1999 was not as good a year for Pride Cab as most people think. The Insignia, the Pahlmeyer, and the '98 QC are all 95+ points in my book. Enjoy!

Congratulations!

My top three choices would be:
1995 Dalla Valle
1997 Pahlmeyer Proprietary
1997 Phelps Insignia

I would probably save the two 1997's for the Honeymoon, and drink the Dalla Valle, which should be ready to open. Good luck!

Serge, she's marrying the guy for crying out loud. I think he's past the point of needing to impress her!

Congrats, BRR!!! Many happy years.

1995 DV for sure....

Agree w/ PH on every point (not that I've had the '95 DV... but it sounds most interesting to me).

Go HOKIES!!!

Serge,

When you are the first to respond to a thread, do you really need to cut and paste the complete post????

BRR

I have not had any of the wines listed but I would go for the 97 Insignia; like you, for no particular reason Smile

Cheers and good luck.

'97 Pahlmeyer would be my choice. It's not getting any better, and was one of the most seductive wines I've ever had. A great romance wine.

Otherwise, I'd go for the '95 Dalla Valle or '97 Insignia (a consistently enjoyable wine..hopefully like your marriage!).

Thanks, all, very much for your opinions. It sounds like the Dalla Valle is a sure-fire win. I'm thinking tasting two '97 Reds down the line together would be fun, so I'll probably do the '95.

....and, YES she is as much of a wino as I. Big Grin

Cheers!

At times like this ALWAYS take a backup wine in case there's a problem with your first choice.

BRR - a nice list to choose from.

Hopefully 2005 will be a strong vintage so you can stock up for anniversaries to come.

If only I had known in 1995 what I know now - my collecting anniversary wines would have been much easier on the wallet Big Grin

Have a wonderful evening...

BRR: Give her your Pride. Wink (I can't believe I was the first with this one.)

Actually, PH was right, let her choose. The more you let her pick, the longer she will remain your princess. "They" turn into ugly witches if you don't.

Sooner or later it all gets drunk. The only questions are, "By whom?" and, "When?"

Dave Tong-

Great call on a second bottle. I hadn't thought of that. That would be pretty embarrasing... Eek Red Face

Cheers!

Congrats BRR...my thinking is to go for the '98 QC - again, for no apparent reason.

By the way - we ate at Serafina a few months ago - was outstanding.

That's a great list to choose from. You could throw darts to choose and not come up with a wrong choice, but I too would choose the 95 DV. Mainly because I have not had a bad Napa Cab from 95. In fact, the 95 vintage has impressed the heck out of me; even more so than the 94 in general. I'd wish you "best of luck" for your marriage, but keeping a good marriage has nothing to do with luck; it's all commitment and hard work.
