I paid $52 for this a month or so again and definitely worth that. At $75, it's cutting it close. If the most recent disgorgement, you'll like the wine though. Very nice. PH

Yes. This was wide open and very enjoyable. Nothing like other 2005's that I have opened. I would have guessed the wine was an '85 or '95.

2009 Viticcio Chianti Classico Riserva. Whoever gave this a 94 should have his genioglossis excised. Just one more sip.

Glad to hear about the 1992 Matanzas Creek Merlot and the 1997 David Arthur 1147. I'm sitting on both of these wines. Did the Matanzas seem tired at all?

max, to best of my recollection, the 1992 Matanzas Crrek Merlot is the best American Merlot I've ever had. The last bottle about 3 years ago seemed vibrantly youthful. Just one more sip.

IIRC it was a 2005 Hauts de Pontet-Canet. Excellent evening, which once again ended in the wee hours at the FWR. Thanks for setting it up and thanks to everyone for a good time.

Why on earth do you continue to drink Italian wine? You're far too old and stuck in your ways to have an epiphany about them now.

Nice to see a Core wine enjoyed. My wife and I met Dave Corey a couple of years back and really enjoyed him and many of his wines. I remember some pretty interesting experiements he was doing with some non-traditional varieties. He had a 100% Mourvedre that was good, and the Hard Core was as well. Cheers!

How did these three show for you?

A friend opened this for us a couple years ago and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I've had a few other vintages since then (having not found another '92) and while nice, they weren't at the same level. This is definitely one of the best Merlots I've had. "They speak of my drinking, but never consider my thirst..."
