The shipping season is coming to an end but not so the excuses from retailers. Out of maybe 12 different sources, two have arisen as FTD "Failure to Deliver" in stock trading.
1. Premier Cru 2. Goody Goody
Premier Cru is nearly $10 grand. The other is minimal. Neither one has delivered even one bottle though. Anyone else having trouble with these or other retailers?

Still waiting on a few cases from Wine Commune. But, they have already shipped over 70% of my futures. Why does it take so long for some of these guys to deliver? Do they need to get their hands on additional bottles in order to fill overallocated orders? Is it something akin to the airlinies overbooking flights?

Right there with you, MorBorDo... still waiting on about 5 cases of decade-long debt. I'm not too worried about timely delivery at this point as I'm running out of storage space... but I would certainly appreciate SOME word from them regarding status. Just a side question for others in our boat: how many folks have just put their metaphorical fists through the glass and cancelled orders out of sheer frustration? I wonder how much coin those guys boost of of their 5% cancellation fees for wines they've never actually taken delivery on...

PC and Library have delivered 90-95% of what I ordered already. JJ has 85% of it in, but I haven't yet asked them to ship (they wait until all of an order arrives unless you request them to ship)
Guys, even reputable stores like Binnys in Chicago still have a few outstanding. Sam's Wines in Chicago also owes me several outstanding Bordeaux and Premier Cru a few more.

Good Lord, not again. It's not like it hasn't hasn't happened before. Or is it different this time?
Yes, it is a concern. Always.

I recieved some of my 05' futures from Goody Goody. Wow, I got mine back in the spring maybe May. First time I've dealt with them and everything went smooth, I would use them again.

Finally received some stragglers, Guiraud and Clerc M., but still waiting on a couple of sixers: Poyferre and Bahans HB. Ordered from my regular LWS. They're waiting as well, and have been told they'll start buying wines retail to fill orders in the coming weeks. Good shop, no doubt they'll make good.

still waiting on 3 cases from Acker (Pichon Lalande, Dom de Chevalier, Sociando Mallet), 2 cases from Sams (Smith Haute Laffite, Malescot) and a case from Carolina Wine (Chantelune) company. Only PJs (Gruaud Larose, Leoville Barton, Cos) has delivered.

Count me among the fist through glass crowd. I had everything from everyone else and none from PC, so I canceled and got my refund. I was tired of thinking about it.

I am glad everyone else is is having issues as well. These places love to sell it, but it is a specialty product that is hard to ship. First off, it all comes in from different places, different houses. Then, the whole country has diffent weather issues, and if you are in the East, and ordering from the West, you have to know the weather from CA to NY to get your wine home safely. Too hot in summer, too cold in winter. Then, you have to deal with price and selection. Find the wine you want, at the best price, and then buy, but tell them not to ship. Now, you have to watch arrival dates and weather, and then contact all 10 places you ordered from, and tell them to ship. Most of them do it fine, but a few may still mess is up. If you then don't get your wine, call the owner or send an email, or both. At that point, it is the companies duty to get you your wine, or offer you a refund. If the hassle is too much, get a refund without a charge. If you want the wine, then get it shipped. If they messed up, and you can get the wine cheaper elsewhere, then they have not upheld their end of the bargain, and you have a reason to push a little bit.

[QUOTE]Originally posted by Roentgen Ray: I am glad everyone else is is having as much trouble as me. I thought I was a fool and was had by sellers, but my opinion has changed. I wish I didn't have to deal with issues, but there are so many variables, that if I am not the one keeping track, no one else is either. These businesses love to sell it, but it is a specialty product that is hard to ship. First off, it all comes in from different places, different houses. Then, the whole country has diffent weather issues, and if you are in the East, and ordering from the West, you have to know the weather from CA to NY to get your wine home safely. Next, there are not as many shipment to the US because of economic slow downs. It was too hot in summer to ship, now, it is too cold in winter for coast to coast shipping. If you live East, buy from the east, if you live in the West, buy from the West Coast. If you are from the middle, mix it up, and keep an inventory on what you but. I think that CellarTracker is the best program for tracking your orders. Enter what you buy, then enter when you put them in your cellar. It is the best way to know what you have recieved and what you haven't. If this is too much work, then buy from one place, hope they have what you like or want, and hope they don't overprice it. Then, you have to deal with price and selection they have. You have to find your own adaptation, and it is a lot of work if you want it all, and want it at a low price.

Well, it's good to hear that Premier Cru is just slow, and Goody Goddy has performed for others. I bought as I said from at least a dozen retailers no single problem seller would have a devastating effect (like people who put 100% of their cash into a single fund like Madoff). As I said, all but two have sent all my wines and all were received in good condition. So, I thought I'd give kudos to those giving me the best service. I'd rank Kinghtsbridge as No. 1 - great prices, always prompt, friendly, and efficient. Special kudos to Winex, but that's because I live nearby and attend services there religiously. The Winehouse in LA is very good. Erin is the friendliest, most helpful individual, and if you ever saw her, you would have to say she is gorgeous. Vaynerchuck's place is pretty good as is Binny's and Gary's.
The rest have all had some issues, Morrells, PJs, Wine Club, KL, Calvert Woodly, Premier Cru, they have all had some little issue, but I'd still buy from them if they come up with the best price on what I want.
That leaves a few I won't shop with anymore. Costco, BevMo, Sams, no way. They don't have the customer service level I need. I am sure there are other good sellers out there. I just haven't bought from them.
But, if I had to pick one retailer from which I had to buy all my wines going forward, well, Wine Exchange, you're the one (on the assumption that Erin is too young and beautiful, and probably married). When I took my family to Disneyland once, I begged off one time just to drive the 7-8 miles over to Winex to a few hours. That's mt E-ticket. LOL
