Hi. I receive wine as gifts now and then, but I don't drink much. I have a bottle of 1997 Barton & Guestier Merlot and need to know if it's still good to drink (assuming that it was stored properly). I want to bring it to a friend's house for dinner.

Hi Scott! Welcome to the forums.

97 was not a great year and this is sort of the the equivalent of two buck chuck for bordeaux. It might be OK, but there is a fair risk that it won't be. Even if it is good it won't wow anyone.
