So I'm in Burger King yesterday to pick up some carryout, and spied a chart giving folks suggestions on soft drink pairings for their sandos. Here's a web pic I found: clicky.

Is this proof that wine tasting culture has absolutely gone mainstream, or that this whole thing we love so much is just a little absurd? I say both.

And, to answer the hecklers' first question, I had a small fry/ketchup, BK Veggie, and a large DC. Good pairing! Cool

What's a BK Veggie? I will seldom even eat the fresh veggies I grow at home. Not sure I would ever even think about trying one at BK.

Thank you for your support of a Florida based company. You are to be commended.

You might want to get help for that carb addiction though! Wink

You're welcome. They paid my weekend and gas money for two years in high school.

Now about those Sprite pairings???

but did you drink it out of the right stemware? I know that rediel makes a DC glass, but I have always felt that the bowl on the OR pinot glasses really focuses the interesting wet angry monkey flavors found in DC. Without that OR pinot glass, it just tastes like sweet soda to me....

It's a veggie burger, made by morningstar farms, on a bun with regular burger condiments. No, it's not health food, but I like them, and for those of us who don't eat red meat, it's a way to get a burger fix from time to time.

Indy,

Your first mistake was going to a Burger King and it went down hill from there. What matches well with Burger King? Pepcid! Big Grin

I thought Brunello was the perfect pairing with Pepcid?

A young Brunello is another great pairing with Pepcid. I agree.

I personally think even wine pairing is a stretch, because with everything, I think it is purely subjective. Soda pairings? Water pairings? Coffee pairings?

To answer your original question - Yes, it has gone too far.

I will only drink a '61 Cheval Blanc with my whopper, out of a styrofoam cup, of course.

Even though it's been years since I've eaten fried/nuked burgers, I always preferred BK over Mickey D's, but Harvey's over BK.

Do they have BYOS (Soda)? I like Brio, myself. Big Grin

It's gone too far when they suggest wine pairings with Taco Bell.

I just can’t understand why they would pair a Sprite with “The Angus.” I mean, it’s like pairing a white wine with a New York strip. Eek Roll Eyes

I think they ran out of stuff with chicken in it. They should have stuck their fish sandwich in that slot. Smile

I don't know about that. I've had a Sprite with the Angus a few times and it seemed to go quite well to me.

Last night I paired Wandering Aengus Heirloom Blend Cider with a Quizno's Prime Rib Cheesesteak sub.

I don't know if that belongs in this thread, but I couldn't think of where else to post it. Confused
