Oct to Christmas always the most expensive time of year.

At first glance must haves are the Cervaro Della Sala and the Pesquera Reserva.

A new product may take everyone by surprise. Black Chook Shiraz/Viognier is something I've waited for years to see in a Vintages release and I can't wait to try it.

Thorn-Clarke Barossa Cuvee may challenge the Chook for "best buy".

Links to detailed sheets will be activated shortly from here: http://www.freewebs.com/winething9/oct112008list.htm

The Langmeils are a decent buy. I tasted at their cellar door last Dec and their entire line up for '06 was good.

Just looking at the '04 Clos du Marquis and can't take my eyes of that $71 LCBO price. You can get this in the US for under $35 (best price I remember was TCWC (Chicago) for $29).

Thanks...I was wondering about the Langmeils.
I pick up a couple to try out.

Is the Pesquera Reserva worth the extra $17 over the basic Pesquera?

I will try the Gemtree Uncut shiraz and the N.V. Osborne Pedro Ximénez 1827 - I've learned to love px!

I'll probably just get the 04 Pesquera Reserva and one or two bottles of the 06 Sigalas Santorini.

Has anyone ever tried Ampeleia?

I enjoyed the Samantha's Garden (I think that was it, something Garden anyway Smile) last year. Very pleasant, nice fruit, soft tannins

If anyone tries the Ampeleia, I'd be interested in hearing your feedback.

I bought the Reserva on the strength of the Parker tasting notes and because I think it is a rather attractive price for the quality of wine I am expecting. But I won't know if I'm right for a long time, because I don't expect to open any of them until 4-5 years down the road. For me it seemed like a good choice...

I took the 2004 Empeleia to dinner at a restaurant last night and was really pleased with it. It has a nice blend of ripe cabernet franc and sangiovese flavours. The aroma has floral notes, with cherry and red berries being the dominant flavours. It's a full-bodied wine with silky mouthfeel and a long follow-through. I didn't get much from the merlot component, unles it was just a slight amount of spiciness. I'll be getting more of this wine.

I had a few bottles of the Ring Bolt cab over the weekend--it is very good. Drinking very nicely right now.
