Looking at Acker's latest online auction and there are some aged Barolo's that are being offered. Besides 1967 as a notable vintage by WS, what other vintages have stood around and are drinking well.

BTW, why doesnt WS list the notable '67 vintage and the wines involved with this vintage???

1982 is in parentheses because it was "marginal" overall compared to the rest. Enjoy.

Joe,

That is too many....at least Piedmont does not declare these vintages the "vintage of the century"

It's not the area that declares vintage of the century, it's the press, critics, and wine buyers. If I"m not mistaken, Suckling declared 1997 something like that. What I can say about those is that at this point, they are preferable to the 1996s side by side but I think the latter will go longer.

Uh...reff...you asked "Besides 1967 as a notable vintage by WS, what other vintages have stood around and are drinking well". I gave you a list as required.

I've had a good number from 1958, 1961, and 1964. That got me to almost completely stop buying Barolo.

Just one more sip.

I really didn't think you bought any Italian wines. Are there certain Barolo producers you enjoy?

Not really. I've had more disappointments from Bourgogno than anyone else. I bought some 1997 Vigna Roche (sp?) from Andrea Oberto and I haven't been pleased with that. I've been to a number of events in which people said that this or that Barolo wasn't "showing well." I understand there are some great ones out there, but I've tasted very few I'd score above the mid to upper 80s.

Just one more sip.

Sure will be interesting to see if WIML brings a great vintage Barolo to OKC or some middling crap. Guess I will find out where I rate based on the vintage. Thread archived.

Interesting.... '64 Bourgogno has been on my 'hit list' for some time now.
