The current Binny's member offer has some nice stuff in it. Most of it I found not-that-interesting but I did pick up (prices just so folks in the area will know what the deal is about):

2x03 Scavino Barolo Carobric ($69)
2x05 Fevre Chablis Grand Cru Clos ($49)
2x05 Fevre Chablis Grand Cru Preuses ($49)

I was a bad boy in September, so I will have to cool it for October. I will probably order a six pack of wine from Andrew Will (offering 06 Champoux and Two blonds).

I hope this is for a Magnum. Are these Alberta prices?

Then again, you guys are oil rich so this might just be a drop in the bucket for the tycoons.

This is the only Available (only store in Edmonton) which has or had any margaux for sale - unless you bought on futures - which unfortunately I did not. Here is the newsletter I received.

Fine Wines by Liquor Select

Chateau Petrus 1983 (Pomerol, France) $2999.99
Wine Spectator What you'd expect from such a legendary estate. Wonderful palate impression with silky, rich fruit. Plenty of blackberry and chocolate character, has a full body and medium finish. 93 pts

Chateau Margaux 2005 (Margaux, France) $1799.99
Robert Parker Another celestial effort from Paul Pontallier and Corinne Mentzelopoulus, the 2005 Margaux, a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot, boasts a dense opaque blue/purple color as well as an extraordinary bouquet of spring flowers, blueberries, black raspberries, creme de cassis, licorice, and, despite its having spent two years in 100% new wood, only a subtle touch of toasty oak. Although full-bodied, the wine seems light on its feet because of the silky tannins as well as the great gravel terroir from which it comes. Beautiful purity, length, and nobility define this modern day classic. Is it better than the 2000, 1996, 1990, or some of the vintages from the decade of the eighties? Who knows, but it is unquestionably one of the all-time great wines made at Chateau Margaux. 98+pts

wine spectator 100 pts Black in color, delivering extraordinary aromas of blackberry, raisin, spices and fresh mushroom. Full-bodied, with an amazing core of ripe fruit, yet ultrabalanced and finely textured. Touches every taste bud. This incredible young red spent two years in new wood, but you can't tell. It's all glorious fruit. A legendary wine. Best after 2017. –JS

Chateau Lafite Rothschild 2005 (Pauillac, France) $1599.99
Robert Parker While the 2005 is another brilliantly classic Lafite Rothschild, for my taste, it comes in slightly behind their extraordinarily opulent 2003 as well as the dramatically powerful 2000. A blend of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% Merlot, the 2005 boasts a dark ruby/purple color in addition to that exceptional Lafite perfume of graphite, spring flowers, crushed rocks, and sweet black cherry and black currant fruit that exudes class and nobility. The wine is medium-bodied with extremely high levels of tannin in addition to sensational purity, length, and overall harmony. However, it is exceptionally backward, and even more tannic than either the 1995 or 1996. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2050+ 96+pts
Wine spectator 98 points Delivers blackberry, dried porcini, tobacco and licorice aromas. Full-bodied, with layers of velvety tannins and loads of dark chocolate, cigar box, currant, berry and mineral. The finish is long, with a coffee, almost meaty, aftertaste. Very beautiful and balanced. Best after 2013. –JS

Chateau Mouton Rothschild 2005 (Pauillac, France) $1499.99
Robert Parker The 2005 Mouton Rothschild will have to take a back seat to the prodigious 2006, but administrator Philippe Dalhuin deserves considerable credit for pushing Mouton to higher quality levels over recent years. A blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest mostly Merlot, the dark purple-hued 2005 exhibits a restrained but promising nose of cedar, tobacco leaf, creme de cassis, and toasty oak. Full-bodied, tannic, and extremely backward, with the vintage’s tell-tale acidity, it appears to be even more closed in the bottle than it was from barrel. It does possess a long finish and multilayered mouthfeel. This is an undeniably outstanding, yet restrained, shy wine for a Mouton Rothschild. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2040+
96pts

wine spectator 95 pts Dark purple black in color. Complex aromas of mineral, licorice, lead pencil and blackberry follow through to a full body, with ultrafine tannins and a caressing, pretty finish. Has a lovely texture. Shows elegance and refinement. Best after 2012. –JS

Cheval Blanc 2005 (St Emilion, France) $1299.99
Robert Parker The dense ruby/purple-hued 2005 Cheval Blanc’s ethereal bouquet of menthol, coffee, wet stones, black cherries, blackberries, and hints of graphite and spice soars from the glass. An equal part blend of Cabernet Franc and Merlot, it is medium to full-bodied with a gorgeous texture in addition to high tannins that glide over the palate with no angularity or astringency.
96pts

Wine spectator 97 points
This is really gorgeous on the nose, with blackberry, mineral, light vanilla bean and milk chocolate. Full-bodied, with ultrafine tannins and a long, caressing finish. This is racy and very beautiful. The tannins coat the palate, but leave a provoking impression. A Cheval for long-term aging. Best after 2017. –JS

Chateau Palmer 2005 (Margaux, France) $474.99
Robert Parker This spectacular offering should continue to improve, and may merit an even higher score after additional aging. Stunningly rich and powerful, the dark purple-tinged 2005 Palmer is a blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and 7% Petit Verdot. Aromas of incense, burning embers, black currants, plums, licorice, and flowers are followed by a full-bodied Margaux with more weight and power even than its nearby first-growth rival, Chateau Margaux. The abundant acidity and tannins are beautifully coated by the wine’s exceptional fruit extract and overall harmony and richness. It is so concentrated that one is hard pressed to find even a hint of new oak. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2045+
97pts
wine spectator 95pts Dark in color, with intense aromas of crushed berry, toasty oak and hints of raisin, turning to fresh flowers. Full-bodied, with a big, juicy, velvety texture and a long aftertaste of coffee, coconut and berry. This is powerful and muscular for Palmer. Best after 2012. –JS

Carruades de Lafite 2005 (Pauillac, France) $139.99
Robert Parker A classic example of a second wine, the 2005 Carruades de Lafite reveals a dark ruby hue with some pink showing at the rim. The moderately intense nose of graphite, forest floor, and sweet black currant fruit is followed by a medium-bodied, elegant wine with light to moderate tannin. Drink it over the next 10-15 years.
89pts

Wine spectator 89 pts Has coffee and chocolate aromas, with hints of ripe fruit. Medium-bodied, with soft tannins and a fruity, plummy, milk chocolaty aftertaste. The second wine of Lafite Rothschild. Best after 2012. –JS

Chateau Montrose 2005 (St Estephe, France) $219.99
Robert Parker The 2005 Montrose is an exceptionally tannic, broodingly backward offering displaying a dense ruby/purple color along with a provocative perfume of crushed rocks, flowers, cassis, black raspberries, and blueberries. It continues to add weight and richness, good traits considering the substantial, forbiddingly high tannin levels and zesty acidity
95pts

wine spectator 94 pts Black licorice and blackberry aromas, with hints of mineral, lead to a full-bodied palate. Very chewy, with loads of tannins, yet this follows through with beautifully ripe fruit, mineral and mint. Fascinating.

Chateau Troplong Mondot 2005 (St Emilion, France) 349.99
Robert Parker This estate was justifiably elevated to a Premier Grand Cru Classe in the new St.-Emilion classification thanks to the exceptional efforts of proprietress Christine Valette over the last two decades. The 2005 is one of the monumental wines of the vintage, and may eclipse their prodigious 1990. Inky/blue/purple-colored with an exceptional bouquet of Asian spices, blueberries, blackberries, truffles, cold steel, graphite, and charcoal, it hits the palate with exceptional purity, laser-like precision, a compellingly concentrated, multilayered mouthfeel, a broad, savory texture, terrific acidity, and substantial, but sweet tannins. It lives up to everything it revealed in barrel, and appears set to live for a half century or more. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2050.99pts
Wine spectator 96 pts Exhibits aromas of coffee, ripe fruit, wild mushroom and blackberry. Dark and very complex. Full-bodied and chewy, yet velvety and beautiful, with intense flavors of blackberry, chocolate and tobacco. Very, very long This is layered and gorgeous. Best after 2016. 6,250 cases made. –JS

Chateau Clos Fourtet 2005 (St Emilion, France) $199.99
Robert Parker Clos Fourtet is on a roll, having produced a stunning wine in 2003, and an even more brilliant effort in 2005. Stephane Derenoncourt, the consulting oenologist, has plenty with which to work given the fact that this is a relatively large vineyard (50 acres) planted with 85% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc as well as a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon. The inky/blue/purple-colored 2005 boasts an exceptional perfume of acacia flowers, blackberry and blueberry liqueur, graphite, scorched earth, and background oak. The wine possesses a full-bodied texture and abundant quantities of stunningly pure black fruits. The result is a sumptuous St.-Emilion of great concentration, intensity, and overall balance. This prodigious effort looks set for 25-30 years of evolution. Utterly awesome!
98pts

Wine spectator 95pts Black in color. Blackberry, licorice and brewed coffee aromas follow through to a full body, with a wonderful concentration of fruit, a great texture and polished, silky tannins. Goes on for minutes.

Drappier Carte D'Or (Champagne, France) $46.99
Wine spectator 90 pts Heady scents of jasmine and apple mark this flavorful, elegant bubbly. Lovely harmony between the livlely structure and delicate texture lends finesse and class. Fine lingering finish

Laroche Chablis 1er Cru "Vaucoupins" 2004 (Chablis, France) $39.99

Domaine D'Ardhuy Corton Charlemagne 2005 (Burgundy, France) $149.99

Domaine D'Ardhuy Puligny Montrachet "Le Trezin" 2005 (Burgundy, France) $87.99

Allegrini Amarone 2004 (Italy) $99.99
Wine spectator 93 pts An interesting melange of currant, prune, flowers and hints of cardamom on the nose follow through to a full body, where the fruit turns to fresh black currant, coating the firm tannins and giving a long, fresh finish of fruit and mineral. Superfresh and well-structured. Delicious now, but best to wait.

Lagier Meredith Mt Veeder Syrah 2004 (California) $72.99
Robert Parker I have always enjoyed the elegant, French-styled Syrahs from this winery, and this 2005 appears to be the finest they have yet produced. A beautiful deep ruby/purple hue is accompanied by aromas of blueberries, black raspberries, spice, and ground pepper. Displaying a seamless integration of acidity, alcohol, tannin, and wood, winemaker/proprietor Carol Meredith has fashioned a brilliant Syrah offering substance and style. With full body, superb balance, a silky texture, and a fascinating mouthfeel, it can be drunk now as well as over the next 7-8 years.95 pts

Wine spectator 91 pts Firm, intense and richly flavored, with chewy, peppery notes joining ripe plum and spicy herb and sage. Clean and refreshing on the finish. Drink now through 2013. 700 cases made. –JL

Siduri Cargasacchi Vineyard Pinot Noir 2006 (California) $77.99

Domaine Drouhin Pinot Noir 2006 (Oregon) $57.99

St Francis Old Vine Zinfandel 2005 (California) $32.99

Friar's Rose' Napa Valley 2007 (California) $20.99

Cline Ancient Vines Mouvedre 2006 (California) $25.49

Ben Schild Reserve Shiraz 2005 (Australia) $50.99
Wine spectator 91 pts Offers a velvety texture, a smoky flavor and just enough juicy blackberry fruit to stay balanced, finishing with fine tannins and a welcome savory edge. A graceful style that keeps its cards close to the vest. Needs time to develop

Jip Jip Rocks Shiraz/Cabernet 2006 (Australia) $20.99

Quinta do Infantado Vintage Port 2003 (Portugal) $65.99

" " " " " 2004 (Portugal) $61.49

Barao Vilar Colheita 1977 750ml (Portugal) $99.99

Being someone who has limited resources and therefore having to make choices, this kind of pricing always makes me wonder whether I would rahter have 1 Margaux or 4 Palmer or 8 Montrose (or a combination)...

I also can't afford the 10% chance that bottle might be corked or less then perfect and then end up with nothing at all...

Segura Vintage Reserva (Spain) $19.99

Very attractive pricing....Maybe it is worthwhile for me to book a flight and bring all my 05 1st growth and sell them in Edmonton. I'll even undercut them....lol Razz...man I'll be happy with 75% already.... Big Grin

I'll compromise with 3 Troplong Mondot & 3 Larcis Ducasse at current prices. Smile

So far this month:

A case of 2006 Clos Mimi Pettite Rouse from the winery
3 bottles of 2005 Cuvelier de Los Andes Grand Vin from Garagiste
2 bottles of 2005 Villa Creek High Road from Binny's

It's shipping season, so I have to make room in the cellar for 15 cases set to arrive in the next couple of months. I have to slow down purchases until everything is squeezed into the cellars.

On a less expensive note:

2 x 2003 Quinta de Roriz Vintage Port
1 x 1983 Quarles Harris Vintage Port

Checked!
