I have a Vintage keeper and have noticed that the capsules on the bottles in the top level are loose on about 3 of the 6 bottles. It also seems to be worst on the bottles closest to the air vent. I keep an open container with water and the humidity is about 60%.

Should I be concerned? Has anyone else experienced something like this?

I would guess this has nothing to do with the humidity in your VK, and everything to do with the wineries 'capsule' machine. I wouldn't worry about it (assuming the corks are in perfect shape and not pushing out or leaking or something).

I've always heard that a capsule that can be turned is usually a good sign, at least on older bottles. It is a good indicator that there has been no seepage. I wouldn't worry about it.

Agree with Curt.

Loose capsules are always better than capsules that stick.

If they're easy enough to remove, take them off and evaluate the condition of the cork.

I always twist the capsules when picking up wine at the LWS...I've always heard that it's a good thing if they twist... -mJ

I have done this twice in my life. Both times I pulled a capsule off, then before pulling the cork.....decided on a different wine. Both times when I finally did open the bottles.....the wine was horrible. The worst two bottles of wine I have ever tried. I have never had another bottle like those two....ever.

Coincidence???? I don't know......but I will never pull another capsule off and put the bottle back in the cellar again. Does it make any sense? Not really, I have plenty of bottles that were bottled without capsules, but I can't explain it otherwise. Confused
