I just realized that I don't drink California SB that often. I did recently try a Sauvignon Blanc from Brassfield Estate (Lake County) that wasn't bad and it was reasonably priced.

Another good one is made by Tom Rinaldi at Provenance. I believe it's under $20

I had the 2007 Ferrari-Carano Vineyards Fume Blanc and it was quite nice for $14.

Stunning? Really?

I ask this in all seriousness. What made the wine stunning in your opinion.

Thanks in advance.

Hey Brashley, on another note I went to a big wine tasting at one of our distributors Quality wines and ran into Mat Garretson. He is a head wine rep there now and he sold his winery and moved back to minneapolis to raise his kids with his wife. He wants to come to the annual Cdp dinner again. He seemed very happy about his decision.

There were a few reasons I liked it, but what left me "stunned" were:
1. this sucker is 7 years old, and is not an alcoholic mess. I would expect any randomly selected 7 year-old CA S.B. to be far far past its prime these days -- this one certainly is not;
2. gorgeous diesel aspect on the nose, and, to a lesser extent, the palate as well -- very similar to the petrol note commonly found in Rieslings. I've never experienced this with a S.B. before, but would love to hear of other examples, if they exist;
3. very well-balanced, and not alcoholic.

Overall, this provided me a window into the graceful ageability CA S.B. can attain -- a window I've never had the opportunity to look through before -- and I liked what I saw. Smile

This is good news ... I'm happy to hear he and his family are doing well. I certainly hope he does find a way to join us this year -- I always enjoy any time I spend with Mat. LIkewise, I hope all is well with you and yours. Smile
