Without question, my two favorite CA SBs are:

Peter Michael, Merry Edwards. Completely different styles from one another; personally, I probably prefer the ME, but could understand someone else going the other direction. Nothing else relly comes close to these, imo -- at least not that I've had.

All this having been said, in some vintages, Martinelli can make a good one.

@ $15, Mason gets my qpr nod.

Merry Edwards (which I'll assume will be the most popular choice overall) and Kathryn Kennedy (I appreciate its citrus aromas & crisp acidity).

Second you on Peter Michael L'Après-Midi

Would also recommend:
- Kalin Cellars (top value pick)
- Morlet Family La Proportion Dorée (simply exceptional)
- Spottswoode (just opened an '06 - fantastic)

Araujo & Spottswoode. Never had the Merry Edwards.

It's Merry Edwards for me. Haven't found one nearly as good especially for the money.

Another vote for Merry Edwards. I know some people say it's really not sauvignon blanc and more like a chard. But it's still from a sauvignon blanc grape.

Merry Edwards and Sbragia. Both use the musque clone. St. Supry always makes a consistent QPR.

I'm with Winetarelli: Merry Edwards and Peter Michael are by far my faves. Old stand-bys for me are Rochioli and Voss: both very refreshing and incredibly consistent.

I like the Merry Edwards SB, but not too keen on the price. I'd rather have 2 kiwi SB's for the same amount of $s spent on the ME.

Has anyone tried the Walter Hansel SB yet? They're in the $15-18 range, but haven't had a chance so far.

If you're looking for a specific wine, the 2007 Valdez SB is really nice for the $$

Quality vs quantity, tanglenet.
Go for the quality every time. Wink
