Just curious what you guys like for $15 in US. I'm sure there aren't a ton of options. At least drinkable ones.

For American grown and bottled wine at $15 and under a couple of labels come to minds, 7 Deadly Zins and Colombia Crest Grand Estates (their Chard, Cab, or Merlot).

In college I always drank the basic Seghesio Zinfandel.
I haven't had it in years and passed a bottle at World Market for $16.99 a couple of weeks ago and decided to see if it was still as I recalled. It *is*. It is a good, straightforward Sonoma Zinfandel. For $15/bottle red I would deffinitely look to Spain, Italy, and lesser-known regions of France first, but within the context of thw question, I would deffinitely say this qualifies. While Columbia Crest GE Merlot is usually one of my go to's, I'd avoid the 2005 version. Gutless is a good descriptor.
In the cheapo domestic red market, I'd look to Petite Sirah. Concannon and Bogle aren't too bad. -IB PSA: Please report gratuitous trolling/flaming immediately (little triangle at bottom right). |

There aren’t a lot of palatable red options at under $15 that are from the US. However, there are a few I have enjoyed. The aforementioned Columbia Crest GE series wines, Qupe Central Coast Syrah, Beckmen Cuvee LeBec. Go about $5 more and pick up the Chappellet Mountain Cuvee.

Another vote for CC Grand Estates & Bogle Zin or PS- I usually get either at my local grocery store on sale for $8-9. It is sad that there really arent that many good US reds for $15.

Interestingly, the CCGE Cabernet '05 is very nice and better, IMO, than 2004 by quite a bit. For under $15, I'll still go back to Goose Ridge RTW every time. Sometimes, too, Townshend Cellars Vortex Red goes down below $15 on sale and can't be beat for the price. Cheers! |

Easily would have been Dover Canyon Renegade Red -but they stopped making it. Their Cujo Zin comes in around there. Best option is finding close outs. We bought a case of the 03 Carina SBC Syrah for about 12.50 a bottle (down from 20 something) - Similar deal on Garreston Aislings. Core's old red blends were not much more than 15 a few years ago IIRC -but the price has gone up

I completely and wholeheartedly disagree. I find much of the cheap stuff (and, yes, under $15 is pretty cheap) from France, Italy, Spain, etc. etc. to be crap, just like the US. There are some excellent values that are every bit as good if not better here in the US for that price point than their Euro counterparts. Are there some in every major country? Sure! But does that mean that sub-$15 US reds are inferior to non-US sub-$15 reds? No way! Cheers! |

Oh MY! BRR, I truly respect your opinion. That said, there are 500+ wines from 2000 - 2005 vintage only just from France, Argentina, Australia, Italy and Spain that would rate 90+... IN MY OPINION.  Very few I would rate a 90+ from the U.S. in the same time frame under $15-$20. I'm glad you find some to your liking. |

I think I had a Wallace Brook Pinot that was $15 from Oregon.
Penny Farthing Cabernet Franc was about $8 and sort of had a Chinon sensibility to it. Bought the Columbia Crest Reserve Cabernet 2003 for $15 or less and I am hoping that it is good. Like others have said, Italy sure performs well in this price range. Portugal also. The Spanish and French have some nice stuff but for my palate it needs to age. |

bogle old vine zin cline zin or cashmere -I used to like rock rabbit syrah but the last few years tastes like they dump a vat of sugar in it. Usually if I spending that little amount I'm looking for something outside the U.S. or picking up a six pack of some good beer(Great Lakes Brewing Company). |

While I agree that Chile, Argentina and Australia kick the US's arse in the $15 range, recently I have enjoyed Zayante Zinfandel, Cinnabar "Mercury Rising", Thomas Fogarty "Skyline" and Silver Mountain "Oscar's Wild".
