The other week I happen to stumble over very interesting bottle of Vernaccia(white Tuscan) Riserve 2003 produced by the Falchini Vinyards. the wine is composed of 90%vernaccia 10% chardonnay. I have to say it was one of the best whites I have had in a while, a Good while. At 13.5% it was fairly strong for the heat wave that was presiding out side.
On the noise its was a fresh slightly fruity tone but very well balanced for an oak aged white, the vinilla scent weren't predominant, as in allot of oak aged white. This years I prefer fresher, aged whites (if you can say this) such as Marsella Fiano di Avellino which is aged for 1 year in Steel.
Anyhow I think its well worth the search and will satisfy even the most refined palates.
I've not heard of this wine, J Nolan, but it sounds interesting! I'm familiar with Falchini's Vernaccia di San Gimignano "Solatia," which is often a very good wine. In fact, it is my benchmark vernaccia because it usually delivers ripeness, crispness, and mineral tang with real balance and distinctiveness.
This Riserva you tasted sounds more like something in the vein of Teruzzi & Puthod "Terre di Tufi."
BTW, have you tried T&P's "Carmen," a white vinified sangiovese?

Others have mentioned Soave from GINI think I'll grab a bottle of it this evening.
Falchini is the benchmark vinyard for Vernaccia appart from the reserve he's got a great cru 'Castel Selvi'. Then a range of Reds that are just great. Did you know that he ages his Vin Santo in the very first Barrels that the first Sassicaia was made in 1968.
