There are a couple of merchants I can bring back wine to (partially or totally empty, and a couple of times bottle not even present) and get exchange or exchange in kind (if the wine isn't available I'll take a different wine) with or without a bill. The problem with that system is that I'm so friendly with a couple of retailers that I won't even do that anymore because I feel bad about it, kind if like I just screwed over a friend.

I know someone is going to call me a sucker, but I get treated well by my merchants (with access, advance notice, and favorable prices) and in turn I treat them well. It all works.

"Caveat Emptor" or let the buyer beware. You are buying something in between the freshest of fruit and the most complex of medicine. A living, changing thing. With a biological substance. A chemical that can be so expensive there is inherent risk espesially when you spend upwards of $8000 per year just on italian wine alone. If you cant take the time to educate yourself enough for a hobby, which is as costly annually as your car then you are foolish. Don't buy wine with even the slightest hesitation or thought about returning it. It will ruin the whole experience. Drink a lot, read a lot and travel a lot.

Full store credit without a receipt.

After reading all these posts The LCBO seems to be head and shoulders above any other retailer or wholesaler for its return policy. I guess the higher prices pay for some things.

I'll take unlimited choices and no returns over your system anyday.

Make this your political platform, along with cheaper prices due to competition, and I'll vote for you as Prime Minister. (BTW...Prime Minister is like a President, but without any real powers Wink

Manfred2,

I understand your frustration that the staff at Paul Hobbs didn't follow through on the offer to send a replacement bottle of Chardonnay. But I'm surprised they even made the offer for a bottle you drank. I don't think it's reasonable to expect to have the cake and eat it too.
