4 days ago I hit the lotto IMHO and found 6 97 BV GLT's at 63.00 and change.
I continue to remain a fan of this wine in spite of all the hoopla over the last couple of years.
Going to crack a 97 and 99 today with a nice ribeye and take a peek at both.
I was speaking with a gentleman yesterday who's opinions I value greatly. He felt that the 97 would not hold up/develop further in the next 24 months. He couldn't put his finger on why other than to say he felt it was starting to show signs of being a little soft on the backside.
Has anyone popped a 97 recently that would be willing to share their insight ? While I have been enjoying wines for quite a while, my palette is pathetic at best. It is next to impossible for me to deduce if I can set a few of these aside for a couple of more years, or, add them to this years drinkables.
There was a little conversation on this wine here. I had this wine over a year ago. It was rich, nicely balanced and certainly had the structure to go for several more years. A the price you paid, pop one soon and let us know what you think! Good score.

FWIW, Wine Spectator gave the '98 an 87 score and recommended drinking through 2006.
You have a 3L bottle so it would have aged better and more slowly, but 98 was a cool, wet year (remember El Nino?) and generally did not produce powerful or long-aging cabs in Napa. Your bottle is probably at or near its peak this year, so if you have the occasion for a bottle that size, go for it, I don't think you'll gain anything by holding onto it for several more years.
It should be a solid traditional cab, particularly a good match with food, but considering the style of this wine and the vintage, don't expect something that resembles the blockbuster concentrated styles which get most of the headlines these days.
