Not much of interest to me. Perhaps I'll give the two Cloudy Bays a shot.

I used to be a huge Cloudy Bay SB fan until it hit $35 and I discovered Kim Crawford SB. Almost as good at 1/2 the price.

On the release, it is pretty weak IMO as most of the summer ones usually are.

The Zenato Amarone has historically been good and price is fair too so I'll probably grab a bottle to try.

Tasted the Chain of Ponds cab at the cellar door in January and it was very good good for the price. We considered Chain of Ponds to be one of two the best wineries (the other being Bird in Hand) we visited in the Adelaide Hill region from QPR perspective.

Hello

This is the quietest release I have seen in some time ...

Maybe July's releases will have more excitement

Happy Summer

I need an excuse to go pick up two lonely bottles from my Classics order, so may pick up a bottle of the Cinque Stelle Amarone at the same time.

$55 for 2005 D'Agassac!!! Eek Are they kidding?

Nothing for me either, from the regular list, though I'll get some Kilikanoon Parable if there's any left by the time I get back to Canada.

Re 2005 CHÂTEAU DELORD, how bad must a bordeaux be for the LCBO to price it under $18? Eek

Usually real bad ! but the last one I remember buying was the 2005 CHATEAU LA GASPARDE under $15 ( WS-89 ) was a great QPR if you wanted to give it 2-4 years of cellaring IMHO.

I'm thinking of letting this one pass by (that will be two releases in row! Big Grin ). But if I get anything, the best choices to me are...

2006 Château Mirausse Minervois Le Grand Penchant @ $19
2006 Altesino Rosso @ $19
2001 Lan Reserva Rioja @ $21

There's also a pretty decent gruner veltliner from Rabl in this release...

Thanks for pointing that one out because I missed it first read through. This winery was pouring several of their products at a tasting here a couple of years ago and I was pretty impressed with most of them. They make a really good icewine.

The Campo Casalin from Castellani is excellent, so I would expect the Cinque Stelle to be of similar quality. Castellani is an underrated producer in my opinion. I don't recall seeing the Cinque Stelle on shelves here in Ontario before (maybe a Classics catalogue a few years ago), as we usually get their normale and Campo Casalin only (unless you go through the agent).

Jo Cooke, a Veneto "tasting staff" for WS, rated it 95. Both the Cinque Stelle and Zenato Amarone are available at the Queens Quay store today.

I had a earlier vintage of Pennyfield Petit Verdot that was very good. If anyone tastes the 2006, I'd be interested in hearing y0ur opinion of it.

The Torbreck 'Old Vines' GSM is a very nice value at $23 - Apparently it is a 'Vintages' only bottling as well for a touch of cache Roll Eyes

Seriously, I had a couple of bottles of the '04 and it was excellent Aussie juice.

Cheers,

- Ian

Good catch. I hadn't noticed it wasn't JS who tasted it.

IIRC, the Gasparde that was a 89 was the cuvee prestige. I contacted the winery and they actually make two blends, despite what appears on their actual website. Either way, I agree, the wine was a good QPR leaning towards the oaky side.

Thanks for the info Wec!

I did not mind the oaky side as much as the acidity thus my 2-4 years cellaring recommendation but still a good QPR for Bordeau in Ontario.

Hello Gaby

I enjoy your picks - just curious on how many of your picks have so little community holding in cellar tracker

Brant is doing a really appreciated job of listing all wines as a tagged list (see link here >>Wink
http://www.cellartracker.com/list.asp?O=SortWine&table=...0&iUserOverride=1273

I don't mean to downplay your picks -I guess I have never noticed haw few had holdings before ... but with that aside -- the Lodge Pole -- does have 121 bottles at an average USA price of $16 ...ouch to see us Cdn's paying $25. Sure wish we can get the LCBO to get closer to USA street prices on more wine ...well - a guy can wish - can't he

Greg
