Hey guys and girls, my wife's cousin's wedingis next month and they have asked for my help choosing a wine. They arent allowed to serve red at this venue because all the furniture is antique and nice. They want a good cheap chard and the whites I drink are mostly Reislings and Sauv blanc. Any recs would be appreciated, especially stuff thats widely available. Thanks in advance.

The '07 J. Lohr Riverstone Chardonnay is really nice - retails here in the ATL for $9.99 before discounts, and I've (well, Mrs. K and I actually!) gone through a couple cases this summer. This is available at most of the area grocery chains and through several of my LWS, so I don't think you'll have trouble finding it.

I second the Columbia Crest H3 but think its closer to $15 normally. I'm also a big fan of Four Vines' Naked Chard.

07' Santa Barbara Winery Chardonnay

from the winery $15, can find retail $10-12... winemaker is from LaFond, and if the vintage is good (as 07' was for SBC), they usually put out decent wines on the cheap

"Mirth" Chardonnay from an Owen-Roe second label will fill the bill.

Clean apple and citrus, only a bit of oak.

K Vintners puts out one that is a bit richer and less structured under the Charles Smith label.

Both should be under $12, maybe $10 with case discount.

Souverain Chardonnay at $12 would be an even better deal, but I think that is $2-$3 lower than the bottom price.

Covey Run.
Don't laugh. This is one of the better buttery-style chards I've had in quite a while. Picked up a few on a half price sale for $5, so it's right in that target range and widely available.

this is a good chardonnay for the price (usually $10)...I'd pick it over the J. Lohr Riverstone

"They aren't allowed to serve red at this venue because all the furniture is antique and nice."

Huh? They fear that you will spill red wine on the furniture and damage it, but they think that white wine will not damage the furniture if spilled thereon? Wacky.

Anyway, a good chard for $10? No idea.

Another vote for the Varner Foxglove.

Also, the aussie Trevor Jones "Virgin" Chardonnay is quite good for the price.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have passed a good number to the bride and will let her make the final choice.
