i dont remember the exact stats, but UCLA's defense last year was the only thing that kept them in the games... you had the Ball brother's on both end plus Ricky Manning Jr. & Brandon Chillar along with the players UCLA still had in Matt Ware & Justin London & Ben Emanuel... they were good, just the offense sucked.

my point with the current D-Line was that none of them started a game before this season, with a couple true freshman starting due to injuries in the preseason... give UCLA a couple seasons, hopefully they will live up it!

Did you miss the part of my post that admitted that USC was the best team in the country? If they played UGA's schedule (Florida, Tennessee, Auburn), there's no way they're undefeated. Likewise, if they played Florida's schedule (UGA, Tennessee, Miami, Florida State), they're probably 9-2 or 10-1. That's still really really good, though.

My point is that the PAC10 sucks. USC just happens to have the misfortune of being the top of a crappy conference.

One team does not a conference make.

Having said that, I have to admit that I think USC was probably the best team this year. Would they have played in the Orange Bowl if they had Georgia, Florida & Tennessee on their schedule? Probably not. But damn, they sure did look good against Oklahoma.

And don't get me started on basketball...

GZN - PLEASE- you mean like last year when SC went INTO Auburn and destroyed them 23-0...the biggest fallacy in college footbal is that the SEC is the best conferemce - pure baloney. Look at Sagarin's ratings - he has them at 4th I believe...

G&Z –

the PAC-10 may not be the best top to bottom in the country, but they don’t suck. I’ll take the PAC-10’s top 5 against the Big 10, ACC, SEC & Big 12’s top 5 any day -

USC 13-0
Cal 10-2
ASU 9-3
UCLA 6-6
Oregon St. 7-5

Auburn 13-0
Tenn 10-3
Georgia 10-2
Florida 7-5
LSU 9-3

Iowa 10-2
Michigan 9-3
Wisc 9-3
NW 6-6
Ohio St 8-4

OU 12-1
Texas 11-1
Texas Tech 8-4
Colorado 8-5
Iowa St / Texas A&M 7-5

Virginia Tech 10-3
FSU 9-3
Miami 9-3
Virgina 8-4
UNC 6-6

You have USC who beat VT & OU, a 7-5 Oregon St. who shanked 3 kicks to lose to LSU by 1 @ LSU, and an Arizona St. team who blew out Iowa 44-7. Yes, Texas Tech romped Cal, and UCLA lost to Wyoming of all the... but it’s stupid – Georgia squeaks by GT 19-13 and it’s a “good close game” with a 7-5 (4-4) ACC / inter-state rival, and 6-6 (4-4) UCLA takes USC to 29-24 and its, “ohhh, USC almost lost to weak UCLA.” my point is, you stack them up next to each other and it isn’t so lopsided as it seems. I do not disagree with the statement the PAC-10 isn’t the strongest conference, but again, they do not suck.

And don’t even get me started with non-conference schedule... gotta love Auburn playing Louisiana-Monroe, and *gasp* that powerhouse The Citadel... pleeeease Roll Eyes

Maybe if SC played Auburn's schedule, with those powerhouses Louisiana-Monroe and The Citadel, they would have been undefeated, though.....

Its all or nothing in my book. You're either the best conference or you suck.

Okay, the PAC 10 ain't the MEAC or the Moutain West, and the sure don't suck as much as the Big East. But I'll take those top 5 SEC teams against your top 5 PAC 10 teams any day.

And SC was 6-5 this year. USC was 12-0.

Really? What a shock.

I'm a graduate of the University of South Carolina. When I was there, there was a campaign to call it "The" USC. South Carolina had been around for 75 years when Southern Cal was founded.

G&ZN, so how happy are you with your new coach? It may be just a few years before we have a USC v. USC national championship game.

G&Z

its a common thing to call USC on the west coast, at least CA, "SC" just because they are commonly called what you posted... Southern Cal

thats funny about that campaign, i wonder how it would've sat with The Ohio State University

G&ZN,
I have to disagree with you.

It should be:
USC - U. of South Carolina
U$C - U. of Southern Cal
