Corked wines are, unfortunately, a hazard of our hobby. I thought it would be interesting if we could keep a running log of corked wines that we stumble across during the year.
My first corked wine of the year:
1992 Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley Reserve. (BIG bummer )
Stay thirsty my friends.
2001 Domaine de la Charbonnière Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes
This is going to be a colossally depressing thread.
Redhawk, now why would you go and do this...?
Actually, the end of 2012, but we had two corked wines at our final wine group dinner of the year.
1994 Rol Valentin
2000 Clerc Milon (mine)
“Appreciating old wine is like making love to a very old lady. It is possible. It can even be enjoyable. But it requires a bit of imagination.”
2007 Sasso di Sole BDM
Last Week 99' Gruaud Larose was cooked, not corked. Regardless, it sucked.
Say NO to Shiraz!
2006 Tenuta Sette Ponti Crognolo
2006 Domaine Le Soula
The cork on the le Soula was as soaked as I've ever seen. Both were in my offsite cellar since release.
2 bottles so far this year... out of 6!
2003 Domaine de la Vougeraie Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Marconnets (massive seepage as well)
2001 Domaine du Vieux Lazaret Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Exceptionnelle (more likely Brett than corked)
Although my sample size of flawed wine has been (thankfully) small, I've noticed that a higher percentage of French wines tend to be affected. Also that wines >5-7 yrs or so tend to have a higher failure rate than younger wines. What trends do you see in your flawed wine?
Only one bottle in 2012
1997 Chateau Montelena in a .375.
LUCIEN & ANDRÉ BRUNEL, Châteauneuf-du-Pape Les Cailloux Cuvée Centenaire 2003.
Only one here in 2012 as well: 1985 Gilette 375ml
Poopy. And odd seeing that the '85 Gilette was probably bottles within the last couple of years... I think they are bottling the 1988 & '89 now?
2006 J C Conde, Neo Punta Esencia
2003 Les Cailloux Centenaire
On the same day.
I should have bought a lottery ticket.
2004 Vitanza Quadrimendo Toscana IGT
Interestingly most of the corked wines I've opened lately have been italian
Wait for it...
2007 St. Supery Napa Cab Sauv (badly cooked and probably a bit corked too)
2011 AMano Primitivo (cooked. purchased at same time as above bottle)
2011 Meiomi Pinot Noir (their Sonoma-Monterey-Santa Barbara bottling, was just awful. had to be seriously cooked)This message has been edited. Last edited by: newsguy,
the first repeat offender in the cooked thread:
2004 St innocent Seven Springs.

This is my sig -> www.brownteacup.com
I'll put this thread on top of my favourite links list, along with the oxydised Burgundy thread.
There is nothing in our intelligence that has not passed by the senses. (Aristoteles)
1994 R. López de Heredia Rioja Gran Reserva Viña Tondonia
Isn't this under screwcap? Corked isn't cooked.
