I ask because I bought a bottle of Whisker's Blake, an Aussie stickie that calls itself a tawny port, and was expected taste similar to offerings from Chambers or Bullers. I got a sweet dessert wine all right, but it had a sour aspect to it that neither my wife nor I much liked.

On the back label it said it was a "smooth mellow port with classic rancio characters". Is this the sour-ish taste we found? It is certainly nothing like true tawny ports we've had.

I was disappointed because we love Aussie stickies and this one was rated 94 points by WS, and cost only CAD$20. Frown

A vague- yet perhaps helpful description:

rancio

This is very helpful, thanks! Smile

I guess I now know to stay away from rancios, or find out first if a tawny/stickie is a rancio.
