I remember discussing this on the board a few years ago but could not find it, Therefore, I thought I would resurrect the topic. I am interested in board members opinions on their top 5 favorite German wineries.

Here are my top 5 (in no particular order):

JJ Prum
Helmut Donnhoff
Robert Weil
Willi Schaefer
Josef Leitz

Thanks in advance for sharing.

We are relatively new on German wines.

So far, J.J. Prum and Meulenhof.

I have just started in my Riesling quest so I anxious to see others lists. The best I have had so far:

Gunderloch
Jos. Jos. Prum
Peter Jacob Kuhn
Franz Kunsler
Robert Weil

J. J. Prum
Gunderloch
Studert-Prum
Zilliken

Jury Still out:
Donnhoff
Weil
Leitz
Schaefer

Jury is out on some of the above because I've only had examples from the 2003 vintage, and as a whole, I don't care for the vintage. I would like to taste these producers more before deciding if I like them or not.

My top 5, also in no particular order...

JJ Prum
Selbach-Oster
Meulenhof
Donnhoff
Christoffel

In fairness I still have bottles of Leitz and Gunderloch that I haven't tried yet. Maybe it's time to open them, perhaps at an offline.

My all time best white ever was a Georg Breuer Spatlese Berg Schlossberg 1996, so he's on top with J.J.Prum.
Georg Breuer is really hard to find though Frown

No! Confused

Are there really only 12 people on this site who drink enough German wines to have favorites?

Maybe that is why an excellent wine like the 2001 Muelenhof Auselese only costs around $20.

I don't have much experience with German wines, but I have yet to be disappointed with Robert Weil. I've tasted only three different wines by Donnhoff, but they all were quite tasty!

I spent the whole weekend trying to think of five but could only come up with one - Giorgio Moroder (as long as you ignore the Money B stuff). Then I read the details and am slightly embarrassed. Please ignore this reply.
