Costco in Tustin has a few bottles of the 2000 Don Melchor for $29, they also had 1997 D'Arenberg Ironstone Pressings for $39, not sure if that's a good deal?

I just noticed that the 00 Bordeaux thread which triggered this thread starts with the statement
quote:The Feb newletter from Costco listed the following 2000 Bordeaux that various stores will be carrying. "Not all wines will be available in all locations. Wines will arrive in waves in the warehouses over the next few months."
How does one obtain the CostCo newsletter? Is this the same as the email alerts that you can sign up for at costco.com?

It was Aliso Viejo. It had about a case and half left after my case. Night before I took the last six from Laguna Niguel.
$29+ for this wine is a great QPR.
Consider last year, the 2001 Sebastiani Alex. V., a 92 pointer, was a bargain at $23 at The Wine Club, $29+ for this 95 pointer is absolutely a great price.
Not just the high scores, but they really taste great.
BTW, saw 2002 Sebastiani, Alex V. at TWC two weeks ago. Great stuff. Rumored to source Cherryblock grapes since no separate bottling for Cherryblock for '02.

2000 Lafite in magnum format--$799.99 in Van Nuys (1 left)...$599.99 in Torrance (3 remaining as of this AM). There WERE 3 @ $599.99 in San Juan Capistrano, but I had an associate tipped off and he swooped in to take them all.

errr, I'm not positive but I think Ron was referring to a buddy of his and NOT a Costco worker. btw, Costco workers do get some very good deals according to my source down here in the O.C.

I've noticed that every bottle that I've had from Costco's, whether it is a $15 bottle or a $50 bottle, they all have been pretty good. Does anyone know how Costco selects what they sell?
Not sure how accurate I am on this, but I believe for the most part, if a wine is sitting at Costco and you've not heard it before or not too familiar with, the chances are their buyers have tasted the wine and approved it to have it brought in.
These guys are not going to bring a wine in blindly and just let it sit on the shelf and not move, it's all about volume.
2000 Concha Y Toro Don Melchor @ 32.99 2002 Chateau St. Michelle Indian Wells Columbia Valley Merlot @ 14.99 2003 Waterbrook Melange @ 8.99 Moet Chandon White Star @ approx. 24.99

I have heard from one of the wine guys I befriended in O.C. that they will sometimes sell their employees bottles that sit around too long for a ridiculously low price instead of having to deal with returning it to the distributor. He told me he got a few bottles of 99 Mouton for $5 last year. Don't know if that's companywide or just this one store.
btw, I don't blindly buy anymore after throwing away $12 on an absolutely horrid undrinkable bottle of 2000 Clos Les Lunelles.

I think he's full of it though. Maybe they would sell it at cost, or maybe a little less, but come on 5 bucks? riiight.
