I picked up one of these about a week ago at the Concord Costco and it was corked Mad, but I went back, traded it in and had it the following night where I found it to be a pretty good pinot for the price. It has a good QPR.

Also, has anyone seen the '04 Mondavi Oakville at Costco yet? I picked up the '03 last year and I remember it was at a great price and a decent wine as well.
-you know, this got me thinking, the more '03s I've tried in the last year, the more I like. I think some of the 03s just need a little time to flesh out. The last time I was at Neal the '03s seemed to have put on a few pounds. I think the wines were thinner from the start, but more aromatic; and with time, I think these might flesh out well. Sorry for the rant. Big Grin

Lizard-Agree- I have found several 03s that are great. An underrated vintage.

Was at Costco today - didnt buy anything but found it interesting that on the end where they have the big names, the 03 Opus One @ $130 was just about empty but the 04 Margaux, Lafite, Mouton and Haut Brion all around $150 were totally full. I keep eyeing the 03 Solaia and Ornellaia but think Ill wait for the 04's to hit the shelves...

Bloomfield Hills, Michigan store

2002 Grange - 199.99
2004 Artadi Vinas de gain Rioja - $19.99
2000 Zind Humbrecht Selection de Grains Noble 1/2 bottle - 59.99 (this appears to be a screaming value according to wine-searcher)

Actually the Wither Hills Pinot is 12.97 not 14.97. I snagged a bottle to try.

04 Mondavi Reserve in quantity, Irvine.

$89.99 ($125 release price); 95 pts., highest Reserve score yet. 8,688 cases.

Bought 2 6-packs. Still 2 6-packs and probably 15 in bin as of last night.

Yet to taste but based on the plush 04 Oakville, this will be good - and a bargain amongst the big boys. A high end QPR if you will. Not sure why not much excitement here or at Cellartracker.

TN appreciated.

A couple of San Diego area stores are doing a large format mini-event. Apparently, it has been going on for a week now. I was with my 18 month old daughter, so I didn't take the time to write prices down. Here it is from memory, which means most likely off by a couple of bucks:

Provenance Rutherford 2004 Cabernet 3L - $115 (I bought one of these)
Dynamite Cabernet 2004 3L - $48 (Mission Valley was out)
Acacia Chardonnay 3L - I don't remember the price.

There was also one more Chardonnay that I didn't even register the name of. I like Chardonnay well enough, but if I am inviting over enough people to warrant opening a 3 liter, there is usually red meat involved. I guess I didn't spend too much time looking at them.

According to one of the guys who works in the department, Morena Blvd. still has the Dynamite.

I've noticed this before. I think they bring in the mags for the upcoming holidays.

Not a single large format bottle in the Tucson CostCo in the northwest. I'm going to check the Grant store one tomorrow.

Have any of my Phoenix neighbors seen large formats at CostCo up there?

All the Phoenix area stores have large format bottles but nothing exceptionally noteworthy. The Don Melchor magnums that were at the scottsdale store are all gone.

Costco always brings in large formats for the holidays. Best time to pick some up is in January when no one has bought them because a case of BV was cheaper. I have picked up magnums of many Champagnes discounted.

Also, Sauternes should be there soon....

No large formats yet at Alhambra, Burbank, or Los Feliz either. But at Burbank:

Perrin Les Sinards Chateauneuf (WS 90) $23.49
Chateau Labegorce Margaux (WS 90) $29.99

The 2003s have pretty much been and gone. Not sure how excited to be about the 04s. I'll probably just look out for the usual suspects - Rieussec and Suduiraut, and maybe Lafaurie-Peyraguey.
