2004 Pontet Canet at the big new Costco in Irvine, CA (Jamboree and Barranca) for $42. Cheaper than anywere on wine-searcher as of now, same price as the 375ml at D. Sokolin.
Also 2003 Grand-Mayne for $37, 2005 Laughing Magpie for $19, and a number of other good prices around. "I am not a great fool, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you." |

Today in Chicago:
2003 Pavie, $139 each. That's an incredible price, but unfortunately a few of the bottles has some subtle signs of leakage, and they all looked as if they had been in someone's cellar for a while (some minor label damage, and the gleam was gone from the labels and foils). Not worth the risk, IMO. ******* This IS next year! |

Saw several '04 Bordeaux in the Auburn Hills, MI Costco last week. Cheval Blanc, Haut Brion, Margaux and some others. However, the pricing wasn't spectacular by any means. Only purchased one bottle of Leoville las Cases ($95). The last bottle, I just couldn't resist.

Seen a few interesting things recently.
Both Mountain View and Santa Clara had empty boxes of Rieussec. From the shelf talker it looks like they were 1996 vintage. I think the price was $65. Santa Clara had about about a case of 1998 Guiraud at $56 and the 03 Haut Bergeron for $28. They also had a single bottle of 96 Dom Rose for $345(!) Mountain View had 04 Clos Apalta at $56, but I snagged the last two. They also had some big Italian names like Sassicaia - didn't check the price. http://scmwine.wikispaces.com http://scmwine.blogspot.com http://blogs.sun.com/davetong http://twitter.com/davetong |

Yesterday in Santa Clara: 2003 d'Arenberg Ironstone Pressings - $29.97. At least a couple of cases. They also had 2007 Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc (as well as the 2006) http://scmwine.wikispaces.com http://scmwine.blogspot.com http://blogs.sun.com/davetong http://twitter.com/davetong |

This has been discussed before, but the $.97 at the end means they're closing it out. Usually the wines end in $.99 or $.95. I've snapped up some serious bargains there at $0.97 before.

Last week they opened a new Costco in Chico (to replace the current)- heard it is now the largest in CA (I am shocked too).
I went in expecting to see the same stuff the usually carry but boy was I wrong...03 D'Yquem ($159/ .375), 04 Margaux, Lafite, Mouton & Haut Brion...02 Grange ($199), 04 Astralis ($299)...03 Solaia ($127) and Orenllaia ($99)..too many others to mention. I ended up with 3 bottles of the 04 Frescobaldi Nippozanna (sp?) |

KSC02: I am afraid that you are getting old. That's my Costco as well, and I have had my eye on the Grange, but maybe not for that price. At $125 I think that I would have picked up a bottle or two. |

Let us know how it is, ok. I've really loved the '02 and '03 versions. Delicious with a block of Parm Reggiano, Greek olives and some EVOO/bread. -IB PSA: Please report gratuitous trolling/flaming immediately (little triangle at bottom right). |
