Flubis,

The 2003 Reinhold hart Spatlese is about full price if it is the Piesporter Goldtropfchin (WS91). I have not had that vintage but Haart makes the best Piesporter wines bar none (of course there is a lot of crap coming out of Piespoter but Haart is not among them).

They had 2003 Reignac for $21.99 at the Costco in south Irvine. I tried it that night and it's quite good, much more concentration than past vintages I've tried, and it drinks well now with some decanting.

I also picked up Quinault L'Enclos 2003 for $26/bottle.

Oritz, are you sure the Monbousquet was the 2003 vintage? Danville Costco is still shelving the 2001...

The 2003's are separated from the 2001's. I believe the 2001's have a different item number. They had the 2001's for a long time.

The price is $18.99 - if I find my receipt I'll post the item number.

Costco wine receiving days:

Does anyone know if Costco receives its shipments of wine on certain days? I have gone down to my local Point West Costco in Sacramento and never seem to find anything that anyone is talking about. I know that they probably sell quickly, so any hints on when to get down there would be peachy.

I'm sure that it's different for each store. Talk to a manager. They are usually located near the checkout stands.

Saw today at the Everett Costco, the '03 Margaux, Lafite, and Haut Brion at prices too hideous to even mention. Just tack on another c-note over '00 prices. Roll Eyes

Fort Worth, TX Costco:

Item #101227 1999 Banfi Poggie Alle Brunello 124.99
Item #960915 2003 Chateau Lafite Rothschild 329.99
Item #960905 2003 Chateau Margaux 313.59
Item #960909 2003 Pessac Lego Haut Brion 279.99
Item #960906 2003 Chateau Mouton-Rothschild 269.99

Side note: There was a pesky female distributor hanging around the wine asking if I needed help. I told her politely "no thanks." She kept persisting. So I asked her if they had any Pavie. After searching through the Italians (ha!) and then the Bordeauxs, she said that Bordeauxs is what she is lacking knowledge in and that I should try World Market (for those of you who aren't familiar with this place, they usually sell QPRs) or Central Market for the Pavie. I died laughing on the inside and told her they don't sell first growths at World Market. My laugh of the day.

My laugh of the day too. She isn't the only one whose knowledge of Bordeaux is lacking. Too too funny! Big Grin I'm sure the people at Pavie are thrilled you promoted them to First Growth status.

Just one more sip.

Oh well. I thought Pavie was a first growth since someone was looking for it around $299. It should be a first growth at that price. My mistake...

Don't worry about making this mistake. Pavie may very well become premier grand cru classe A in the future, and you will be able to say you were one of the first to point out the fact they deserve higher status.
