What is so hard to figure out?

Go to Wine-searcher (click this link) and enter the wine name and vintage. Searching in the USA only will also likely be helpful for you.

This will pull up a search of US retailers that have the wine in question and what the price is. This should give you a very good indication of the mean, median and mode pricing.

pyang,
ok, I get the general idea, yet, and not to be snippy, but I don't live next door to a Costco, and you are the only friend I can call to do a winesearch. (for everyone else out there, who's pyang?) Razz Is there a way that you know which wines are at the store before you go, and then winesearch them?
This all sounds like a dumb question, but I showed up at Costco today for the first time, not knowing what to expect (except to pay my membership dues). So many wines there I know nothing about. I took a list from many posts on this thread, and found only 3 at the store. I was left with guessing. Does anyone use that wine listings gadget that is advertized in WS?

asv,

I would venture to guess most wines Costco carries will show up in Chicago and California before AZ. So keep track of what's posted and what everyone is buying at their local Costco before you make the drive would be the best bet.

Take the list of item numbers and have membership service search for what you want, that should save you some gas money. Wink
Better yet, just call them before hand and have them look up if the item is in stock. They are pretty accommodating if you have the item# handy.

asv- I have Parker in My Palm for the palm pilot. My main interest is bordeaux, which is why I chose him. Also, I think the WS program is only for windows-based PDAs, and mine is palm. This program has been very valuable for me so far. When I show up to Costco and find 10 2002 bordeaux I can look them up for notes, scores, and market prices. Of course I know the big ones, but who can keep Smith-Haut-Lafitte straight year in year out? Parker saved me from buying the 2002 SHL, and encouraged me to buy Fombrauge for 1/2 the price.

Lincoln Park Costco is on crack!

A ton of 2002 bdx showed up today, but the prices are outrageous.

Lafite $170 - 4 cases left. This was $100 in July when I bought it there.
Leoville Barton- $50. This was $35 in July. It's $40 on the shelves of the wine stores here.
Calon Segur- $48 (?)
Giscours- $36
Smith Haur Lafitte again.
Lagrange again- I don't remember the price.
D'aguilhe- can't remember the price.
Clos du Marquis- $30- this was the only one I purchased. I left about 1 and a half cases.

No Latour Frown

Oh, yeah, they brought out the 2 cases of 01 Ausone that have been sitting in the cage for a year. $228!!!!!

Most of these prices are more than what you can pick them up for at Binny's. It seems to me that someone at Costco who doesn't really know the wine market got screwed by bad distributor pricing. Too bad for them.

FYI for those looking ahead. The 2001 Don Melchor will probably hit $50-60 between early December through next Spring on auctions...

It has to be a WS Top 10. I was amazed that the 2000 didn't rank higher than 24.

While working on my inventory in CellarTracker I noticed that someone had recently purchased 10 bottles of Rust En Vrede Estate from Costco.

I don't recall ever seeing Rust En Vrede there before - has anyone else seen it? If so, where? Do you have an item number?
