To continue the Kim Crawford data point collection:

my local Costco had it for $14& change; three days later it was $11.99 ! I don't think I've seen a price change before, except on closeout- but this just came in.

I bought a case Smile

Don't blame you. Which branch? And what was the item number?

Waltham MA and Danvers MA both have KC '04 SB for 11.99 now.

It's funny because usually prices in our Costcos are higher than the prices quoted in other people's costco comments, but this seems like a really good deal. I picked up another case.

Did you keep the receipt? What's the item number?

Another cult/mailing list only wine seen - this time at Almaden: 2001 Dalla Valle Cab at $110 #892115 - I can find it for $95 elsewhere. What was the release price on this?

I wish I knew what was going on.

Just talked to my wine contact at Novato Costco.

To the best of his understanding, Costco can't buy wine from private collectors to re-sell on the shelf.

All Costco wine purchase have to come from a licensed establishment, distributor or winery direct.

My city just started selling wine about a month ago. Our local Costco just started selling wine about 3 weeks ago. I've been to this specific Costco location 3 weeks in a row and they are still selling the same wine. Not one single new wine. I have never seen a Costco be so slow about the turn around of wine before.

Maybe people haven't got used to the idea that you can buy wine at Costco yet.

Or maybe they are waiting until they have finished off all that lovely Texan wine they stocked up on.

I think people in this city are just wine ignorant. I overheard a guy talk about how they are selling wine now in Costco and that is for all the "wine conneiseurs." Roll Eyes

I got a kick out of watching a lady point at the display of Insignia and say, "Look honey. A $100 bottle of wine. Gee."

The only wine that this new selection is even close to selling out of is the Columbia Crest Reserve Syrah.

Picked up all the 02 first growths + Cos in Seattle last week. The Latour was $123.99, the others were $113.99 & the Cos was $55.99.

Cheers,

Fox,
I saw those in the Everett Costco yesterday, as well, and wondered about those prices. Wasn't '02 the year Bordeaux had a huge amount of rainfall and flooding? Or am I thinking of someplace else?

M, Buy as much of the Latour at that price as you can afford! If that one's to much then go for the Cos. FWIW Parker says the Latour is the WOTV.

Cheers,
Fox

My jaw dropped when I saw this on the website. If they are displaying the actual bottle, it looks like it is in great shape. Maybe it's a direct release from the Chateau.

I considered it for 1/10,000 of a second, and then came back down to reality. It's actually a really good price!

I scored 8 more 2002 Coppermine Rd Cabs. $29.97. I had bought one, tried it, and loved it. When I went back my Costco was sold out, but the other Costco I hunt at had 8 left today! yeehah!

BTW, Parker gave this 93 points, while Steiman weighed in at 89. I gave it94 points recently. I think the low WS rating is what kept this on the shelf so long. Thank you Harvey!

Keep your eye out for it, Hunter. Very strangely about 2-3 weeks ago at the same store I was at today that same wine was full price ($59.99 I think), but it was $29.97 at my usual costco. I went today on a lark, figuring I might get lucky and find something. Lo and behold, they had marked this one down.

Coincidentally (or not) they had moved the wooden wine rack, that huge bin display. I suspect that during that huge project they inventoried and had gotten word to mark this one down if it was still on the shelves.

That's crazy. I love it when that happens. Other people will just walk by, and we'll be like "Holy $hit" and just grab a bunch like some maniac, almost like we're doing something wrong - lol

I grabbed 4 of these a while ago at the markdown price - 2 2000's and 2 2002's. I just had a 2000 over the weekend and really liked it. I think this is a cab that requires some time. I had a 1998 about a year ago and was really impressed. The 2000 I had was still a little young but already showing great. I would hold the 2000 for another year or two and the 2002s for another 4 or so at least.

When you see a bargain, PLEASE get the item number.

Costco staff are SIGNIFICANTLY much more helpful if you can tell them the number of the wine you're looking for.
