Well, nobody guessed the winning number but the member who came the closest (and the winner the bottle of the Chicago Wine Mafia Signature Series Cuvee) is Pyang who guessed 1864.

The winning number was 1874. The first year the Cubs played professional baseball.

Oh, did I mention that I posted the winning number for my 5000th post contest in a thread on this board over a week ago. Obviously nobody found it. Here is the post. You can see that the number was posted before the contest started so that everyone knows I did not change it once the guesses started coming in.

Thanks for participating.

VM

Jimmy, you must be a hard person to sit next to at any suspense movie. Smile

Just relax. Take a break. Pour yourself a glass of wine.

I promise to call you right away, just as soon as I've heard that you won! Big Grin

[ed. Oops! He put it up just as I was typing this. VM, clever way to slide the number in last week. I think I'll go back and change a few of my previous posts as well.]

Cheers.

There is nary a member more worthy than PYANG to win this contest, I can only say:

All the best to VinoMe on 5000+ extraordinary posts, and to pyang for a job well done!

As the humble recipient of this very special and limited bottle of wine, I have full intention of putting this up for a special auction on winebid. The low reserve price for this once in a lifetime treasure will be a mere One Million Dollar. Wink

In the light of this special surprise, I guess I will just have to find the time to make it out and visit the la familia sometime this year. Smile

As they used to say in that Connect Four advert: pretty sneaky sis.

Pyang, enjoy your wine!

Darnit, I was defeated by my engineering focused mind again!

I made the most mathematically likely guess at the time I guessed (and it held as the best mathematical guess until the end), hoping there wasn't something non-random about the number. Bad assumption!

lol

Congrats VM and Pyang!
