Hey guys.
Heading down to SF in a few weeks and hoped to do some shopping. Any stores with a good selection / some good deals anyone can recommend in the city? We'll be renting a car but staying mostly near downtown. "I can certainly see that you know your wine. Most of the guests who stay here wouldn't know the difference between Bordeaux and Claret." Here are two big ones that are ones you will want to stop by:
K&L Wines 638 4th Street San Francisco, Ca 94107 415-896-1734 The Wine Club 953 Harrison Street San Francisco, Ca 94107 800-966-7835 The Wine Club also has a real nice location in Santa Clara as well if you should be in that area. *********************** PetiteSyrah, California's most underrated grape for great ageability and intensity. |

I can't say enough good things about K&L. Great selection, great prices. If you visit their website, you can order items from other stores and have them ready for pickup when you get there.

And don't forget the German heaven!
Dee Vine Wines Pier 19 Embarcadero I was there last month and the selection is out of this world. |

Ditto to the above.
I've also heard good things about: San Francisco Wine Trading Company http://www.sfwtc.com/ I've never been because the location is out of the way from where I live. FYI, if you are around on a Saturday, all three have tastings. "When I drink, I think; and when I think, I drink." Francois Rabelais www.tanglenet.com TN posted on Cellartracker |

VinFolio is great, but they don't have a storefront. You can pick up wine at their warehouse, though, if it's ordered in advance.
Great people down there. K&L is good too. |

Purple Haze recommended a great wine shop to me when I asked the same question in October. It's called Adel's. It was on the northern end of SF IIRC as I hit it on my way out of town to Napa. They have a good selection of aged wine. The 97 Fuligni I picked up was in great shape and was a perfect way to start the trip.

Agree with K&L and The Wine Club and both offer a wider and deeper selection. The San Francisco Wine Trading Company is exceptional and discounts are offered at their tastings of the specific wines tasted that particular Saturday. They have introduced me to some great values. They are near Twin Peaks.
Napa Valley Wine Exchange and Blackwells are two shops within the downtown area although I have found them both to be higher priced. Blackwells also has tastings on Saturday. |

Thanks! This has saved me so much time it's crazy "I can certainly see that you know your wine. Most of the guests who stay here wouldn't know the difference between Bordeaux and Claret." John Cleese (Basil Fawlty) |

These two things do not mix. If you are staying downtown, ditch the car. You only need a car if you are leaving the city, you don't need it for driving around. Factor in the car rental and hefty parking fees and it will probably be cheaper walking and talking cabs or street cars. "When I drink, I think; and when I think, I drink."
