What also makes it a bit different is that you didn't just register within the last few days. But I don't believe that you or any of your posts have been attacked, so why were you taking it personally?

The WS boards are kinda like a fraternity. You need to take a bit of bruising in the beginning and then before you know it, you earn the respect of others on the board who are pleased you stuck around. Having a sense of humour is very key.

One interesting thing is there have been zero one-hit wonders on the thread over there. Sure makes it appear like a lot of these people have an agenda...

Also, with the shear volume of people who actively post on both boards, the "rivalry" is seeming more and more like an exercise in group psychology.

Agreed on both points...but maybe the one-hit wonders are here because this is the WS board (vs. idea that it is only a few people who could only create a few ID's because they need to identify themselves/post by name at eBoob).

I can echo some of this sentiment. Of course some of us are here because of the latest news surrounding the Awards. The WS editors chose this forum to publish their response so it's drawn many here.

Despite the fact that I come "in peace" to discourse with the WS editors, I'm getting all kinds of labels tossed at me (and one person even questioned my CSW designation, which was really odd).

I'd love to contribute more in the forums here, but I'm not exactly feeling welcomed with open arms. Smile

You're right..Missed the fact that CRB joined in May..CRB, you don't fall into the poll. This is not about number of posts..

True, but, for the most part, new posters that get bruised come looking for a fight. I find it amusing how many first time posters come in guns blazing and then act offended when someone takes them to task.

These two statement appear contradictory. You need to decide what your participation here is going to be before you can expect others to welcome you, or not, as the case may be. If you are actually here only because of the Awards, then you can probably expect a continued chilly response. If you do want to contribute more, then please do so. I would expect such contributions would be positively received.

Great point - and fully appreciated.

Could also be a case of 'a few bad apples' on both sides.

New Forum member here, but one who is specifically not going to post in the "...scammed" thread, there's too much bad blood and hot tempers in there, most of the pertinent stuff has been said a dozen times already but is getting obscured by the "post & run" comments.

I admit I have finally joined because of all the publicity over the last few days, but anything I have to say on the matter has been said elsewhere and would not add to the content (I wish a few other people would have thought the same)...however joining now may come in useful in the future when I may actually have something interesting to add to a topic when it's fresh.

Until then, hi..... now I'm off to find a Premiership thread.

You are correct, I was not being attacked nor did I feel I was, it just seemed anyone that was new wasn't being treated too cuddly it seemed to be getting out of control. I'm sure there are reasons beyond my understanding, may it be the scam thread or otherwise. So, buck up hopefully you all have tough skin, I have no problem picking back Big Grin

Welcome to all the new guys and gals on the forums! Don't let the few old (in the registration sense) hags push you away from sticking around and participating. There are some outstanding resources here to learn from that are not only knowledgeable but also cool as hell.

That said, here are a few ideas of who to turn to for advice (there are plenty more I'm not naming, these are three areas I'm constantly reading/participating in):

Italy: Futronic, Longboarder, KSC02, Foghorn Leghorn
Champagne: Purplehaze, Wine+Art, VinoMe
Spanish: Board-O (just get past the grumpiness!)

Those listed above are great resources outside of the specialties mentioned as well.

General great advice (everyone above included here):
Winetarelli, wineismylife, dr.darkrichbold (like's 'em young!), Cometspider (if you can find him), latour67, Stefania Wine, sydthesquid, g-man, and although a new member (shriek!), Brad Coehlo has great Rhone advice. There are many, many others...these are the ones that came off the top of my head.

And in general, "mpls wine guy" will provide very little to a discussion...but he does have some good advice and if for nothing else, it's fun watching others give him a hard time for his occasional useless post (or 2 or 3, or 4..)!!

Enjoy the arguments between Board-O and dr.darkrichbold over drinking windows and maturity (both the wines and theirs) Smile

To be truly part of the forum, keep an eye on the buying and selling section and when someone posts their VERY FIRST POST on the forum selling a 6 pack of 1997 Screaming Eagle, be sure to reply immediately with a picture of "Spam." This "initiation" will surely make you fit right in!

Again, welcome Smile

Oh, skins are generally pretty thick around here. It's not too tough to find a jousting partner if you want. Smile

You'll have to start one, although we do have a Serie A thread. Did you see Fulham took down Arsenal today?

I don't follow the Aussie threads much, so thanks for the addition Smile

Also, now that he's arrived, VT2IT is another good Italian resource if I recall correctly Smile

The board is a great resource for a novice like myself, but its really the personalities that keep me coming back.

Yeah, eventually realised no dedicated Premiership thread on here, oh well, at least there's an F1 topic!

Fulham were definately better in the first half, and did well to hang on for the win. There's been a few upsets over the last couple of weeks, I know it's too early for a pattern but it's looking like another rollercoaster start to the season, but why did Friedl have to let in 3? (that really destroyed my Fantasy team this week!).

Welcome Greybeard!

I’m way passed any further comments on the other thread, so will just add that in my opinion Sarbuze’s and Duckfaninmt’s advice is right on. I would add to the list: Seaquam (for his wonderful sense of humor as well as his wine knowledge), Brian Loring, Randy Sloan and many others.

Newbie’s may also get some jabs until they learn that there is a pretty good search function on this board. Look’s like you've overcome that one though. Big Grin

It seems logical to me that a forum would want new people to join in and contribute. Such an injection of new blood adds more knowledge and experience to the whole. It only benefits everyone.

So, I don't see any reason why new individuals should be hazed. It accomplishes nothing of real value and can actually turn valuable people away who do not want to deal with such inane hazing. Better to be welcoming to new people as it would be more conducive to getting people to stick around.

As mentioned earlier in this thread, people should address the content of the posts rather than the people. Ad hominem attacks are fallacies that add nothing of relevance. Rise above such petty attacks and strive to write posts of substance.

Whether someone is a blogger or just contributes to message boards, both are still just writing about wine. There is no need to denigrate one or the other, just due to the forum in which they choose to write.

Richard

A good forum does want people to join and contribute. People who sign up, make 1 nasty negative comment, then are never heard from again don't contribute anything but bad feelings. Post count only makes a good point when you see that the poster has contributed to other threads or just including a poor opinion in 1 thread. I don't think anyone was hazed. I think bad people were told they were bad people. I think those people claiming to be bloggers only came here to make a respomse since they were called lazy journalists as a whole. I don't really think
